Hi Ian , Conciousness is the ability to use your senses . It is the reverse of unconsciousness

Okay !
A reply !
Plant life uses it's senses . A Sunflower will follow the sun . Is the Sunflower concious that this is what it's doing . At the end of the day , does the Sunflower say to itself , or its mates , ' Another goddam awfull day in this miserable English summer ' ?

Hi @Ian59 , I anticipated that you were referring to conciousness in " human " terms . When it comes to the conciousness of plant life or even insects , this is something yet to be scientifically discovered . Whether or not these perceive conciousness as we understand it I am not so sure . I think most relatively simple life forms are genetically programmed . The information required for the basic functions they perform are inherent in their DNA

Hey everyone!
i've been reading all the coments and I am really interested in knowing more about this therapy... you think it could work on me? I have depression and anorexia and I think in the last session my psy was mentioning something about maybe having borderline, dunno, sometimes I just think they make up things to cover up for the fact that they don't have the slightest idea what is going on inside our heads

Hi Aria. This thread has some strange moments. When it comes to Borderline Personality Disorder the evaluation literature is clear. DBT comes out as effective the only variation is how effective. It has been used in other conditions. I haven't looked at this literature. I'm sure Google would find what you need to know. If you want to know a bit more about DBT there is a useful book.
The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook: Practical DBT Exercises for Learning Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation ... Tolerance New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook
I don't know if it is possible to use DIY but I have met one person who felt she had benefited from the book above without therapy. I wish you the best of luck.
Love
Steve

Hi Aria, I would so recommend this therapy for anyone! You do, however, have to be able to really commit long term, and really engage, and some illnesses don't allow this. Speak to your local mental health team. For DBT, you undergo strict assessment and they will be able to tell you if it's right for you. I guess it's expensive and they need to make it work. Sounds cold, but also better for everyone. I dont have experience of eating disorders personally but my best friend is very poorly With one. I sometimes think of them when I'm in group and think how much they could benefit. All the very best wishes, Vic xxx

I take each day as it comes, try to have a focus for that day. Today is pretty good, but it gives me a nudge every now and again. H

hi guys, I have emotionally unstable personality disorder. I am currently being assessed for DBT, dialectical behavioural therapy. I was told this could make me a 'new me'. Obvious reservations as how can therapy change your personality, which essentially what has to happen to feel better. If anyone has experienced this first hand or heard anything about it I would love to hear from you. Or if you share a similar disorder. Living with this disorder is becoming more unbearable but hope is a fickle thing. Look forward to hearing from you. xxx
