One Psychiatrist diagnosed me with BPD but I have never agreed with his diagnosis ... I have taken a diagnostic multiple choice exam , and I do not fit into any category . It was truly confirmed when I joined an intensive Psychotherapy group with three other people that had BPD , I had absolutely nothing in common with them . I do not believe I fly off of the handle or react inappropriately . If the treatment aided what ever it is that I suffer from , I would not argue with the diagnosis . But it certainly does not help me . I get far more from one to one psychotherapy or one to one counselling . I would never enter a group environment again , it really brought me crashing down to Earth

Hi Daren, labels are difficult things and people try to fit you in little boxes. But mental health isn't neat and tidy is it? It's a shame you don't like group environments, I get so much from just sharing with other people, even if we haven't all got the same diagnosis. I remember the first time I went into hospital, after the initial shock I thought "finally! Somewhere I fit in'!!!! It is however bringing me crashing down to earth, but I think may be that's what I need. Our module at the moment opened with 'facing reality'. That was me out the door!!
sharing the love. x

Hi @vicfewster , You are correct mental health is not an exact science and not everyone fits into or appreciates labelling . I have no doubt I suffer with depression from time to time , but I more commonly suffer from " deep sadness " ,( ie. A brain that constantly looks to the past full of deep regret , wishing things had been done differently , despite being intelligent enough to know that this behaviour is far from helpful lol ) ... My condensed Biography is on my profile if you are interested :) . I have had all different kinds of therapy and many groups in the past , but this one group has put me off of groups for life . It was a breaking down and building up process which is not what I asked for . It was a severe error of judgement by the so called " professional " staff that selected my suitability for this group . I told them I was already happy and positive and wanted a group to help me stay this way , they must have known what would happen ... the group were crushing me and after each session I felt low and exhausted . In the end I threw in the towel , I had to for the sake of my own sanity . I hope you have had a nice day :-)

Good morning Vic
The ' again ' was an aside to Daren's accident . He suffered an injury at work .
Ultimately reality is the true boss . Whether or not one is any of the labels , including ' well ' , anyone will drown if they fall in a lake , or burn in a house fire .
Tarot , doom struck tower .
I don't mean to be glib , or facetious , I know , at my own cost this is true .
Somewhere on another , there is always some kind of trauma behind , mental health problems . So therapy is all about getting to the root of it , so one can integrate it consciously . Life experience becomes ' This is how I got here ' . Not ' This is who I am . '
Schizophrenia is something a bit different .
If you or Daren are up for a really good read . Look up ' Conciousness and the breakdown of the Bicameral Mind " by Julien Jaynes
This is free on pdf
It took me two weekends to get through . Something of the sadness Darren talks about , is here .
Another miserable day in this god forsaken country ( I mean the weather ) ) :

Wasn't giving any advice , not for me to do , it's only that , if you wish to have an understanding of schizophrenia , read this ! . If you wish to be a psychiatrist , ( or priest ) , don't ! .

I take each day as it comes, try to have a focus for that day. Today is pretty good, but it gives me a nudge every now and again. H

hi guys, I have emotionally unstable personality disorder. I am currently being assessed for DBT, dialectical behavioural therapy. I was told this could make me a 'new me'. Obvious reservations as how can therapy change your personality, which essentially what has to happen to feel better. If anyone has experienced this first hand or heard anything about it I would love to hear from you. Or if you share a similar disorder. Living with this disorder is becoming more unbearable but hope is a fickle thing. Look forward to hearing from you. xxx
