I have had both knees and one hip replaced in the last year. In my experience the hip replacement was by far the easiest and least painful. I am still in pain with my knees ( operations last December and this may) but am hoping that they will continue to improve. One more hip replacement to go in the next few months

Hi,
You will then have the full set I'm the other way round. Have had 2 THR's but only one Knee done. The knee was so much sorer. Which did you have done first? I had the hips done first and expected the knee to be the same. What a shock. Like you say it was so much sorer. I drove until the day before my THR but the knee......gave up driving a long time before the op because it was so sore.
I know in the scheme of things 6 weeks isn't long but I'm still sore {knee} and the other leg is getting very sore and I'm scared I'll have to have another TKR. I've had so many problems with this TKR I know I have arthritis in the other knee but hoped I wouldn't have to have a replacement

Hi Rachel ,
it was good to hear you had a good result with your TKR. I have grade 4 o/a and a rare benign tumour called Lipoma Aborescen. As the name suggests it has tree-like fronds. I'm only hoping it won't complicate the op. My appt with the consultant is on Jan 25th so I suppose I will know more then.
Has anybody else had LA?

I've spoken to many people who've all said (as Kim has) that a THR is much less painful than a TKR. This is amazing when you think how much bigger a hip is joint is.
I wish you all a happy healthier new year.

Hi, I'm almost 8 weeks post op......TKR. Anyone who has had a hip replacement first be careful. I went into this TKR assuming it would be the same as the 2 THR's I had but it was so much sorer.
The lucky ones are the ones who have had a TKR first then go for a THR......THR is so much easier and less painful.
I'm still sore but I don't know what to expect. My other leg is getting sore as well now. That could be compensation....too much weight on that one for a while. It could also be something to do with the fact that I'm permanently on 2 crutches. {nothing to do with the TKR}
Like I say I don't know what to expect pain wise. I know everyone is different but.....!
Oh well I'll just plod on not knowing....I suppose I didn't know what to expect after my first THR
Thanks for listening
Love
Eileen

I had one knee replaced just over 3 years ago. I was due to have the other one replaced and to be honest I could not go through with the operation for the second time. My old knee is now permanently bent, but apart from that I have learnt to cope with it. I can straighten and bend my new knee, but there is nothing else I can do with it and I find it gets uncomfortable at times, but not unbearable. If I had my time again I don't think I would have had my knee replaced unless it was so painful that I couldn't cope anymore.

Hi,
I keep thinking why did you have that TKR but looking back on it I couldn't have ignored it. It was bone rubbing on bone. I couldn't drive. My THR I stopped driving the day before my operation and started again exactly 6weeks later.
TKR I stopped driving about 5 or 6 weeks before my op and then the 6 weeks afterwards so I've lost my confidence. I haven't driven in the dark yet and it gets dark early. I'm 8 weeks post op so just 2 weeks of driving but I should be further on than this

Hi, I am 57 and have been told I need to see surgeon about 2 knee replacements. I live on my own. I wonder how I will manage while recovering. It's quite scary.
