Hi @Boneshaker,
sounds like you've been through a horrible time. I'm praying that the new joint will be successful in releiving the pain.
All the best

Hello aglowlady and nineteen_gale. Thankyou for your replies. I had my operation on 14th February and seemed to be getting on very well. I do my exercises every day and I now drive and walk as much as possible. My extreme pain seems to have begun after about 6 weeks post op when my nerves and muscles had more feeling. I'm unable to use the muscles at the back of my knee to any more than a 70 deg angle. My consultant said my expectations were too high when I went to see him for my six week appointment post op. I've heard such differing reports from people who in some cases were pain free at the stage I am at. I'm hoping every day for improvement but as yet it's not happening. Thanks for your encouragement Xx

Hi Jenny,
Sounds like your consultant was quite reassuring about your progress. I know it's only human to do this but try not to compare yourself with others, as we are all so different.
I started to feel despondent as I felt I wasn't making much progress with some of the exercises. This brought to mind the folk I'd looked after who'd had strokes and to make them smile I'd say "remember it's all down to Mr Percy Severance!"
Take care
best wishes
Tricia x

Jenny44..i was told that the tendons in my bad knee had tightened due to not putting much weight on it and standing with my knee bent to reduce the pain..the physio gave me some exercise to do to try to lenghthen the tendons and straighten my knee.
They had a plastic replica of a knee in the gym where i took physio and i had a good look at it..i wasn't aware then that the replacement device has *arms* which fit round the back of your knee (i presume to make sure it keeps it in place) i have Had a lot of pain from this area and assume that the *arms*Have to be tight and that is what is causing the pain.
It is depressing when others tell you that they have no pain and seem to be making good progress but I think mine is getting better it's just not as quick as I would like.

I am delighted to hear that you are turning a corner. Yes, you are doing the right thing by leaving off the pain lillers and not getting too dependent on them. here is to better nights without painkillers, but please do keep on with your exercises.
Good Luck
