hi,
sorry to hear you had a set back, when you were doing so well. I've been advised to use an icepack for 10 mins every hour when it's particularly painful. I hope exercising in water helps you .
The muscles in my thigh are tight and painful. Is this usual? I'm nearly 2wks post op (TKR).
warmest wishes

@Hileena
hi Eileen,
thanks for your prayers. The exercises are time consuming and painful but I think they are paying off. Wow ! 24 staples! I'm having mine removed tomorrow. I'm hoping it will feel more comfy afterwards.
Is it usual for the foot, ankle and leg to be swollen?
Yes this rehab business is a long haul isn't it?
You are in my prayers along with moonstone1, as we are all in a similar situation. Take care
God bless
warmest wishes

I had a TKR on 14th February. All went well, had three weeks physio but was then told I was discharged. carried on the exercises at home but I have a terrible time at nights as I cant stand the weight of my duvet on my leg as it feels inflamed and aching. Went to see consultant 26th April and he said this was normal, but I am still concerned as it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Is this as good as it is going to get? I still rely on Zapain tablets to alleviate the pain, but don't want to get addicted to them. I also have a numbness down the area of my fibula and slight clicking there as well. Has anyone else come across these difficulties?

Jennyh44... Iam having the same trouble..even my pajama trousers seem to irritate my knee..sleep is almost impossible as i am in so much pain at night..my leg is stiff and i have. Difficulty moving it in bed..i saw my consultant last week but he didn't seem concerned about the pain i am in in fact i thought he seemed a bit miffed that i was in pain as he said that most patients are pain free after 6 weeks and that i should stop taking ibuprofen (which is the only drug that helps me) so now i am putting Voltorol gel on instead.
I too am wondering if this is as good as it's going to get as really i am probably worse now than before the op.
So NO you are not alone as i am suffering this as well.
The consultant refused to give me any stronger pain relief although my GP gave me cocodomol for the 1st.week after i was discharged.

On waiting list for 2nd total hip replacement. That will be both knees and both hips (totally bionic). My knees are still painful on standing and climbing stairs and both numb at the sides. The surgeon says all totally normal even though first knee was done 18 months ago.

Glad to hear that you are on the mend. its such a shame that you are allergic to chlorine. Yes, swimming in the sea will be cold. The physio in the gym shoud have checked the setting before she/he put you on the static bike. If you found it harder to pedal you should have called the physio for help. Do carry on the knee exercises given to you and if you can, start walking again. The more you move the less stiff you will be. Hope you will soon find the relief of pain. I fing the ketoprofen Gel very helpful, more so than the Voltarol gel. Also massaging the kne with coconut oil also helps a grat deal.

Moonstone. Its good to know I am not alone. About to make an appointment to discuss this with my GP. Had a particularly bad night last night. It almost feels as if I have some kind of infection in my leg as the heat extends right down to my ankle. Will report on his assessment of the situation.

Yes i think the physio should have checked the exercise bike before I used it too..they really pushed you at the sessions which i didn't mind as i have always exercised and wanted to keep my fitness levels up (i did body building for 10 years doing squats and lunges with heavy weights and the consultant thought that is what has caused the arthritis)
The knee pain is getting better although still playing me up at night so i take a couple of Ibuprofen to help relieve it plus the Voltorol gel an Gluosomine gel.
I am ok with walking it's just sleeping that's the problem and clothing irritating the scar ..i have to keep moving my feet around or it's uncomfortable.
I am doing the knee exercises every day and they do help.

Thanks for all these comments, they are really helping me reach a decision about knee replacement. No wonder my GP is against the op, he advised TKR only if unable to walk at all and now I can see why!!
