Hello
Can any one tell me how long is the waiting list for a Knee Replacement on the NHS from consultation to the surgery? I was advised a TKR in teh summer of 2015. I have been putting it off as I have been managing pretty well so far with Turmeric milk and various supplements, exercises and swimming. But now my other kee has started to hurt a lot. I am 73 and have had 5 Spinal surgeries, the last one in June 2015 and walk permanently with crutches.
Any ideas suggestions would be gratefully accepted

Well the NHS guidelines say that you should only wait no more than 18 weeks from GP referral to surgery but it depends on how busy the hospital is and if they have beds available..i waited 19 weeks for my knee replacement after twice having my op cancelled at the last Minuit .
Also it depends on if you will need to have intensive care after your op.have a look on your hospital website and they should have the info on there.
Hope it goes well for you..i am now 4 weeks into recovery after having mine done.
I put off my surgery for a year as I thought that i was managing ok but in that year my knee had got worse so i wouldn't wait too long if i was you.

I had first knee replacement December 2015' second knee replacement may 2016 and first hip replacement November 2016 ( second hip shortly) . Hip no problem at all. Knees were doing ok but had a hard fall directly on knees in November and now in a lot of pain particularly on standing and going upstairs. Had x Ray on knees which shows prosthesis has t moved. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I had my first physio session yesterday after missing 2 due to getting a. Puncture on the way there the first time and no one to take me last week (husband was at work) i really enjoyed it and was surprised how hard they pushed you..i had been nervous of doing too much in case the joint was damaged but now feel much more confident with it....i will be practising the excercises every day now until i can manage them without pain..i thought that i would be stiff this morning but it actually feels better so i thin the stretching did some good.
Hileena i hope your op went well and you are now recovering.

Thank you Moonstone for the info. I have an appointment with my GP next Tuesday. i will talk to her about it and see what she says. Having been through 5 major Spinal surgeries, I am a bit reluctant to have another major op. I am trying to manage as long as I possibly can till I feel my body has recovered for another major op. It was the Private consultation that told me that I needed a TKR in summer 2015. I am still doing fairly well and wondering if the Private advised me to have the surgery for financial gain or do I really need TKR just yet? Its a dilema I am facing. I have already had 4 Steroid injections in the kne and its not advisable to have any more. I am still able to exercise, go to the gym and swim. I need a second opinion. Will keep you updated.
I am glad you are recovering well. Keep up with the exercises given by the physio.

Hi @ladybear1,
I can understand that could be very discouraging! On the other hand we are all very diverse and one persons outcome, can be totally different to another.
The hospital where I'm my op has an Enhanced Recovery Therapy programme. Whereby you are given sets of exercises to do pre and post op . Plus other good advice to assist you in having the best possible outcome
In my case, I didn't have any choice. My knee is so bad, the surgeon said he wouldn't be able to do this op, it was left until July. I was shocked by this!
So I 'm more than pleased to have this op and not to be left crippled.
i hope this is of some encouragement for you to go ahead.
Do let me know how you get on.
warmest wishes
