I have OA and had a tibial advancement in early 20000 for chondromalacia then last year I had bilateral total knee replacements , was best idea and I am able to walk without sticks with no problems. Gets sore still as healing is still going on but we'll worth it being done !

I had my knee replaced n the 29th.march..i am feeling much better now and getting around a bit..i had the staples out last thursday and the wound looks good..no swelling or bleeding so good news but the only problem i have now is that a soon as i get into bed my knee aches..no matter what way i try to lay,it hurts so i am not sleeping..i had Co Codomol tablets from my GP but only for a week so just have Paracetemol or ibuprofen..i am so tired now after another sleepless/painful night and am dreading going to bed tonight as i know it will happen again...not sure why this only happens at night as i am pain free during the day..has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi @Moonstone,
good to hear that your recovery is going well except for the pain at night. Perhaps your Gp could prescribe more co codomol so you can get some rest which is vital for your rehab.
All the best

Hi @Hileena,
How is your recovery going? Sorry I havnt been in touch as I was away.
I had my pre op assessment last week so hopefully I'll have a new knee on 2/5.
They might give me a spinal anaesthetic with sedation instead of a GA. Part of me thinks great, the other, ooooer!! Lol!! The thought of hearing thesurgeon bashing away at me gives me the creeps. I'm sure this is totally irrational but I suppose it's natural reaction to anything new.
take care
love Tricia x

I had an epidural plus light sedation..they had to give me the sedation before going into theatre as i suffer from anxiety and had a panic attack when the epidural started to take effect.as too hearing the banging etc.well i was aware of this but asleep so it really did not bother me.
i was told that you recover better with this type of anaesthetic so chose to have it as opposed to being * knocked* out.
I hope it all goes well for you and don't worry about hearing what is going on as you really are not awake enough to worry about it.

Hi @Hileena,
how frustrating for you. I hope and pray you have the op next week.
hi @Moonstone,
many thanks for your assurance of the efficacy of epidural and sedation anaesthesia. I suppose my apprehension stems from the unfamiliar! I know what to expect from a GA!
I'm glad you are recovering well. All the best x

Hi @Hileena,
No I don't know anyone whose had a shoulder replacment. I did a bit of research to find any anecdotal info but I couldn't find any.
I hope the op goes ahead on Tuesday. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
