Hi @Carol
I'm glad your TKR went so well. Mine was dreadful. I had 2 THR's before that and they were great. Hope you do get the other one done soon because when one things go it knocks everything else out of kilter. My shoulder........well number 1 I cant swim, number 2 I hate swimming LOL
Well lets hope 2018 will be a better year for both of us. That you get your other TKR done soon and it helps your back and my shoulder gets lets painful and I can maybe pluck up the courage to try swimming
Love

Hi Carol..glad you are pleased with the results of your TKR..like Hileena i had a bad time with mine...the pain was awful and kept me awake at night plus i had it done with an epidural which i found traumatising and ended up suffering from depression and PTSD which i am now on anti depressants for! I am still suffering from sleepless nights sadly..last night i only had an hours sleep which is starting to be the norm for me...i am not in pain anymore which is good and can walk normally.
Hileena i hope your shoulder heals soon and you will be pain free.

Has anyone heard of stem cell injections to repair arthritic knee joints? I have been invited to take part in research?

Hi Ladybear..yes i have heard of this procedure..i tried to get on a trial rather than have A knee replacement but got nowhere..if you get the chance i would take it..i have heard that the results are good and can put off surgery for years maybe you will not need it at all.

I had my right knee replaced in Feb 2017. Unfortunately mine hasn't been the success most people have. I was out of hospital in 3 days but due to poor physio support I had to have a cortisone injection in November but this also has had no effect. I am left still taking painkillers and apart from being able to walk better on the flat , stairs are a nightmare to me. My left knee has O/A in it as well but I won't go ahead with a replacement fearing the same result. I have heard that a lady who had the op at the same time as myself is completely pain free and mobile so I suppose it's just the luck of the draw.

Jenny44...i would feel the same as you..i would never have my other knee done although it is fine at the moment...i do not have the movement that i had with a normal knee and it’s stiff coming down the stairs (not good as my house has three floors) i only had two physio sessions then was told that i didn’t Need any more so am not sure how far to push self when exercising!
I wish there was some sort of follow up procedure that gave you advice on hat to expect after TKR.
I will be seeing the consultant in march so will have a chat to him then although he was not very helpful when i saw him last year.

Hi
My shoulder isn't too bad.......still sore off and on but not as bad.
As for my TKR I said I would never have another one because I had so much pain and trouble with it but my Left one is so sore and I've been holding on as long as possible because I don't wand to go through that again but I think I'm going to have to give in soon and see the consultantant.
Every time I move my knee cracks which is exactly what my Right one was doing. The bones seem to rub together.

Hileena! I had the bones rubbing together..it was awful..the pain was almost too much to bear and i usually ended up on the floor shrieking i put it up with this for 3 years until finally having the tkr..I found using Flexiseq gel really helped.

I am also suffering with both my knees. In Aug.2015 I was told that my knee was bone on bone and that I needed replacement. Having been through 5 major Spinal surgeries, and my back being fused from T9 till S1, I ma very reluctant to have another major op, particularly as I can not have Spinal anaesthesia due to fused Spine. I manage to drag it on uptil now with taking Turmeric milk and supplements and Ketoprofen Gel. I can still walk alright but going up and down the stairs is proving to be painful. At night I get electric shock like pains and its awful. But now the left knee is also tending to go the same way, and i shall have to do something about it. I am permanently on crutches and currently been monitored for suspected Atrial Fibrillation, I don't feel ready for another major operation. I will be 74 in March, and I feel I ought to have it done before I am too old, but need encouragement.
