2 relatives passed in a fortnight, thought was just grief. Just realised it isn't. Ive not showered since sat, started hurting myself, spacing out, losing time, disaplinary for being off later today. Thinking of skipping it to see if can get signed off

I didn't know I needed help until I realised that I was retreating into my bedroom and feeling fed up of being bullied by family members and friends.
I felt like giving up on life. I lost a few precious family members and had no support on how to deal with it. When I was diagnosed with depression it was like a light at the end of the tunnel. I suffer each and every day. If I didn't have my partner I would have constantly self harmed.

I realised I needed help when my mum noticed that I wasn't my usual bubbly chatty self.
I made an appointment at my doctor's surgery and I saw a lovely lady doctor who listened to me and she said that she that I had postnatal depression and anxiety.
She also said that she was putting me on a low dose of antidepressants to see how I went, but I was on and off antidepressants for over 10 years, but I am now on the right dose and antidepressants for me. I have been on them since October 2018.

I first discovered I required help about thirty years ago. Back then I wasn't sure what was going on. After time my mental health 'improved'. Then over twenty years ago it returned with a vengeance as I my working life was dragging me down. I called out to my wife with a one word message - HELP! I sought professional help which I received. However, that episode has remained with me ever since, though you could say...peaks and troughs! I'm currently in a very bad place and considering a trip to my GP or maybe a counsellor. I have coping mechanisms when I can use them.

I first sought help for depression about 20-30 years ago, though I suspected depression much earlier, probably since my late teens or early 20s. I just turned 70 three weeks ago. It took some time to find the right anti depressants, which I was advised to taper off around 18 months ago but symptoms have since returned, from relatively ok to very low mood with dark thoughts. Every day is like a rollercoaster.

I take each day as it comes, try to have a focus for that day. Today is pretty good, but it gives me a nudge every now and again. H

AmbassadorLizzie when we loss loved ones some people are expecting to grieve in the same way with each bereavement, and are even more upset because they dont. this can be for many reasons, for example it could be the age of the loved one, how close you were to a certain person, how well they physically or emotionally knew a loved one. or lastly some of us may never have met a loved one for many reasons. or if physical events had taken place ,and a loved one could not be viewed by family and friends
this happened me was because, my son and i parted with bad blood between us, and when his baby daughter was born , and died age 50 minutes i was banned from attending her service or internment, her name was Rebecca Jade, but i called her Becky, and i bought her a small headstone and i go to her grave at least once a month with fresh flowers. i will always love my grandaughter, but possibly not as much as my Angel wife or son, who took his own life.?

Suicidal thoughts, not coping, how to get treatment without carrying out my plans?

Hello everyone,
How are you feeling today?
Living with depression can sometimes make it hard to recognize when you need support. For many of us, the decision to seek help comes after a long period of struggling alone. Whether it was feelings of hopelessness, physical manifestations, or simply reaching a breaking point, there is a moment when we realize it's time to ask for help.
When did you first realize you needed help for your depression? What were the signs or feelings that made you reach out to a professional or loved one?
