@Mrs E Larkin I wholeheartedly agree with letting everyone know about how rude and inconsiderate your first GP was and is! Maybe she will take time to reconsider how she treats people!! I also hope that you are doing well post surgery and your hip is doing better!
Stay safe and well my friend!!!

Although I don't suffer from this, I can share my mother's osteoarthritis of her left shoulder, left leg(it is 2 inches shorter than the right) , so she wears customised shoe to balance. This has caused pressure on her right knee causing wear and tear and severe pain. Unfortunately, despite having a right knee replacement, her pain is still excruciating. She has seen the Surgeon who operated on her. He was baffled as most of his patients do recover.
I come from a family of health professionals. I am not a Dr, I suffer from Left temporal lobe epilepsy and have 100% flat feet from birth. Insoles do mitigate the pain but I cannot stand for very long.

I had a hip replacement 10 years ago. As soon as I woke from the anaesthetic, I was pain free, for the first time in over 20 years. I am still pain free. It was the best thing I ever had. I suffer from post polio syndrome. And have, over the years, had 88 operations.

@Moonstone1 Hi, I had my right knee replaced after 11 operations over the years to keep it going. Yes, it is painful to start with but keep up your exercises and you too could sit with your knees crossed like an indian without pain!
People told me that I couldn't possibly have that much bend after this surgery, including the surgeon. I proved them all wrong and the only thing I can't do is run, jump (tried that don't do it!) or kneel on it for more than a second or two.
It doesn't hurt anymore and I am now keen to get the other one done. Warning if you aren't prepared to do the exercises religiously you will not achieve this, you will get the result you work for.
Personally I think people leave it too late and then they start from a very unfit and unexercised place before the operation.
So get it done, get exercising and get a brilliant result and good luck!

Hi…good to hear from you BossyFlossy…i am still exercising it has always been a big part of my life to be active….i fast walk most days and have been running a few times..i really enjoyed it but had to slow down as my other knee has been a bit painful and i don't think i could go through another operation .
I can kneel for a while on my new knee and do squats with weights too.
It took me several years to get used to having this knee but it seems to have settled in now and i don't notice it so much now.

You are very right. Exercise post op is extremely crucial to be started right away and do it religiously to get the maximum benefit out of it in the long run.

This happened to me last week for the first time..i live in a 3 story house and was on the last staircase as i got to the top one of my cats (grace) was asleep on the last step so i thought i would step over her onto the landing as i didn’t want to disturb her..so as i stepped my knee gave way and i would have fallen down the stairs if i hadn;t been holding onto the railing..that has not happened before and i am always careful and hold on when going up/down stairs..i hurt my back/other knee through stopping ymy self from falling but it did frighten me…needless to say the next time Grace was asleep in the same position i got her to move over no more trying to do 2 steps at a time for me after that.

A wise decision. I was carrying a tray of tea upstairs to bed for mu husband and me, and my knee gave way. I quickly managed to put the tea tray down on the step and held on to the railing, and wait until spasm subsided before carrying on. Won't attempt it again.

@Moonstone1 @Moonstone1 Sorry to hear of you're accident on the stairs, thank God it didn't result in your falling downstairs! I'm sure it's an experience you won't want to repeat and I hope your back injury is better soon! Take care
