Wow, with all of you having such bad times with your complaints, I feel that my problems are minor. I have had a cronic back pain for 5 years, had a couple of bad times trying to stand by trying to hold myself with digging my nails to a wall to overcome the pain with tears running down my cheeks. This is due to the crumbling of my lower vertebrae. I also have symmetrical wear in both hips, all due to my work I do. I still am in the same job and I don't take anything for the pain I have , and I have it constant, as they don't work on me. I have to take our dog out twice a day for his walks, as nobody else can as he pulls to much for them, and after 10 mins of walking him, I`m walking like John Wayne, and I have to rest for 10 minutes before I can walk again, in a normal sense, so I have a lot of sympathy for all of you with your complaints. I have had a scan on my lower back and 3 xrays on my hips and all they have said to me was to keep taking painkillers, as there is nothing they can do for me. They give me a strange look when I tell them that I don't take any tablets at all. Some days I feel like I cannot take this anymore and feel like ending it all. Maybe if I jump off a bridge and break my hips they could repair them, now, that's a thought.

Hi,
I have osteoarthritis in my knees and wondered if anyone has tried the Vital3 joint solution that has been advertised. It is expensive but if it works it wouldn't matter about that.

Hi Joanna
What about people outside Scotland. How do they learn about the protocol? Is there any information one can read up on it?
Will appreciate a reply.
Thank you

yes BewickM have the same problem, find it goes on very easily, specially during the winter months. Its started to slowly come off again, and I`m feeling much better for it. Hopefully it will continue for a while yet. Have made my meals smaller and cut a few things out like bread and biscuits, increased veg and fruit. Also make myself move around more. Its far too easy to just sit, and that doesn`t help with joint pain, regularly say to myself, move it or lose it, and it helps me.
Try to have something I can do when sitting down, a few lines of knitting, or read a chapter of a book don`t want to get into the habit of sitting down for a rest and putting tv on, its not a good habit to get into. At present am doing a little sewing.

I have Osteoarthritis in my left knee! I have been told I will eventually need a knee replacement but not yet..so far I have tried Vital3 which really helped but I had to stop taking it as I was having nightmares (really scary ones) and waking up soaked in sweat and so scared that I couldn't get back to sleep..I have been using Flexiseq gel for over a year and it has helped so much..I don't get that awful pain when the bones rub together when I use this but now I am thinking of trying Platelet Rich Plasma injections..I will have to pay for them as they are not available on NHS but I wondered if anyone else had tried them and if they work?
I am very active and try to exercise every day ths is usually aerobics and weight training (I am 70) or if the pain is bad I go for a long walk perhaps trying a little jog In between walking At the moment I am not taking any pain relief but if it gets worse then I take Ibuprofen.
I am NOT going to let arthritis rule me and I really do not want a knee replacement as my sister has had this done and still walks with a stick which is not for me!

Hi all, I am suffer from depression for a couple of years now and the Drs put me on anti-depression tablets.
All started with a few months ago that my right elbow is very painful, went to the Drs and they told me to drink Ibrufen and to come back within 6 weeks, then the Dr decided that I got tennis elbow, and draw blood for arthritis (negative), and send me for fisio. In the meantime I complaint with a knee pain that was more severe than my elbow (but I was told that the Drs can only see their clients for 10 min and one thing at a time. I could not bare the pain in my knee anymore and went to see another Dr in our surgery and she informed me that I got osteoarthritis in my knee and send me for fisio. I was just wondering if there is no test to make sure that I got this osteoarthritis or must I just believe her. I got the pain in my neck and middle of my spine and hips.....

Magdalena..I had to go for an x-Ray before my arthritis was diagnosed..I think that this is the only way they can tell..I saw my x-Ray and could see that the cartilage on the inside of my left knee had worn down to almost nothing hence the pain as the bones were rubbing together..I would ask your gp to send you for an x-Ray so you can be properly diagnosed and then be put under the care of a consultant who will monitor your condition..I get the same treatment at my surgery..a consult is for 10 mins only..how can you explain what is wrong with you and get the right treatment when they have one eye on their watch all the time..it's a disgrace!
The consultant just told me to go away and go back to see him when my pain became unbearable and he would do a knee replacement...no help as to how to cope with the pain..I have had to work that out for myself.
I hope you get the help you need soon.

Hi
Yes the only way only way of diagnosing is an X Ray. So you should insist the GP send you to the Hospital to see a consultant/rheumatologist and get a proper diagnosis
If I turns out to be osteoarthritis the only person that can help after the diagnosis is the GP with medication. If its rheumatology then the consultant takes over. My GP is the same, when she thinks my time {10 mins} is up she goes to the door puts her hand on the knob and that is a signal for me to go.......its dreadful
The few times I have to see the consultant ......he is great....spends lot of time with you. I didn't see him very much until I needed a hip replacement then he took over.
Love
Eileen

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
