Hi @marajade thanks for good advice about the wide gait. I will pass it on to a friend who has this problem.

Hi @Moonstone,
Best wishes for your TKR on the 15th. I'm hoping to have mine after Easter. The consultant told me that due to the severity of the o/a he wouldn't be able to the op in 6mths.

Oh Barbara am so sorry Amatryptiline is a drug like valium that can make u v sleepy it is not a pain killer at all. Try asking for a referral to a Rhuematologist and ask for Butrans n fentanyl skin pain patches, am on fentanyl/duogesic for years n can't physically walk without it. I have OA plus disc degeneration and know all too well the weight gain.
Water = swimming is the only on weight bearing exercise.... If you can't swim there are loads of local adult groups to learn.
I learned age 40 n at the time would not put my head under... Soon I was doing 30 lengths n meeting a lovely group of people.
I think yr doc gave u amatryptiline because it's used for Fibromyalgia but thousands of us get no use from it.
There are also Versatis pain patches that last 12 hours n can be cut to fit.
Best regards Suz xx

Do you find that the two things aggravate each other so that if you get a chest infection the pain is worse or if the pain is very bad you are more prone to chest infection .In the winter especially I get caught in a vicious circle of pain , chest infections and as I am also diabetic erratic blood sugars.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
