Well I finally had the op on the 29th.march..turned up at 7am and went into theatre at 5pm..i had been told that the surgeons finished operating at 4.30 so wasn't sure even then that it would go ahead.
I had an epidural injection
plus light sedation so was semi awake during the procedure.
I had been warned about the pain after surgery but it came as a shock just how painful it would be.....i have now got some strong pain relief from my GP surgery as the paracetamol plus condemne i was given on discharge was not doing much to relieve it and i was not sleeping due to the pain and finished up sleeping on the settee as it was more comfortable.
Anyway it's over now and just looking forward to getting back to normal.

I have my first physio session this afternoon..should be fun (not) and will be having my staples taken out on thursday then just have to concentrate on getting better.
I have been trying to walk with a straight back as got used to hunching over so as not to put any weight on my *bad* leg now i have my new knee i will have to train myself to walk *normally* so chant as i am walking *straight back* although i still seem to be hunching over so will have to work on that.
Th hospital ward i was on had just been newly decorated so was really nice but i did feel sorry for the poor overworked nurses who looked so tired.

I am so happy that you finally had your op on 29th march. I did say it won't be a plain sailing, and that it will be painful. But with physio, pain killers and your own efforts as well as positivity, you will soon get back to as normal as you can, but to really recover and feel your normal active self, it can take up to 6 months. So don't feel discouraged. you are bound to have good and bad days, but the bad days will eventually be few and far between.
Wish you a speedy recovery. Keep in touch and let me know how you are getting on.

Thank you all for your replies..it does help..sadly i didn't make the physio session today as got half way to the hospital and hit a sharp object in the road and ended up with y husbands car with a shredded tyre! We tried to limp home in the hope that we could use my car and still make it but it took longer than first thought so i had to miss it.
I could go tomorrow but husband has some work to do from home so will now have to wait until net week.
I have been trying to do the exercises i was given in hospital but they make my knee so sore which i suppose is to be expected but am walking about more and am only using one crutch now so must be getting better.
Onwards and upwards now!

So sorry to hear about the little accident. Still, it could have been worse. At least both of you are safe and unhurt. You are doing well to walk with only one crutch now. You know the saying, if you don't use it, you lose it. So try and take your painkillers half an hour prior to your exercises at home. In the early stages, it is better to keep on top of the exercises rather than lapse, but at the same time not to over do it. Little and often is better than none at all. Hope you can make it to the Phsio next week.
Good luck

Sorry that you are so much in pain. Not sure if you are able to exercise, but it does help a lot. Like they say, if you don't use it you lose it. I suppose you have tried everything prior to going on Morphine. It does make you very constipated so ensure you have plenty of fluids and you might need help with your bowels. It also causes Morphine itch, so be ware.have you tried any natural therapies? Have you read up on Turmeric for health? If you do decide to have Turmeric, you need to check with your GP if it would interfere with any of your medical conditions or medications. I know that exercise would be the last thing on your mind, but if you take your pain killers 20 minutes before attempting any exercises it would help to move a little easier. Don't sit for too long in one place, keep moving. Exercising in the water is very good as the water takes the body weight and you dont feel the pain so much.
Good luck

Thank yoyu for your message. I don't know if you are into natural or alternative therapies, but did you know that Garlic helps reduce the inflamation of Arhtritis. Other than Turmeric I told you about yesterday, have you tried Glucosamine sulphate with Condroitin, Devil's Claw, Fish oils, Green Lipid Muscle, Boswella. There are a lot of these about on the market. But make sure you check with your GP before starting on any of the suppliments to ensure that they dont interfere with any medical condition you may have or on your other medication. Hope this helps. having a dog is a very good thing. he makes you get up and walk. Ginger and Cinnamon helps with pain but do not over do on Cinnamon if you decide to try the same.
Good luck. Do let me know how you are getting on.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
