Thanks , I use both ginger and cinnamon in my cooking on a regular basis and it has been suggested to me that I should have Greek plain low fat yoghurt and add fruit , cinnamon and honey to it .Also diabetes UK suggested plain popcorn with cinnamon . I have glucsamine patches which I find help , a year ago I could only go out for a day with my family once or at a push twice a week but the other weekend I managed to get out 3 days in a row and was still on my feet so to speak .,it was my asthma that defeated me .

I am very much in favour of Natural therapies. There are many pain killers I can not take due to side effects. Paracetamol now and again is okay to take but regular dosing with Paracetamol causes Liver damage, so that is a definite no no for me. I can not take anti inflamatories as they upset my stomach too much. Celebrex suited me well, but the media reported that many patients on it suffered heart attack, and my doctor advised me to stop it. That's when i went on natural therapies. I now take Ginger, Garlic Cinnamon Turmeric, Omega 3 Glucosamine sulphate, MSM which is a perfect partner to Glucosamine and several other suppliments. All the above suit me well. I suffer no gastric or any other side effects and they control my pain well. So yes, I am deinitely for natural therapy. Cinnamon should be taken with caution as excess can cause some side effects. Google Dose of Cinnamon and you will find out why. Of course, I also exercise, and swim which also helps a great deal. The only prescription pain killer I take is 1 50m capsule of Tramadol at breakfast, and that sees me through the day.
Hope this helps. I am glad you went for a walk and managing it well.

Following an accident at work where I got hit with a bat spent four hour in hospital. Pain ever since holistically. Diagnosed with Arthritis. Was very ill Christmas gone with gastritis stomach issues. Consequently I had endoscopy, camera down throat but found kidney stones, infection, fatty liver. Stopped all the medication for the procedure. Feeling like I am managing better just taking the odd pain killer than the religious cycle I was on. Has this happened to anyone else.

I use a mixture of natural remedies and pain killers but don't take all the medicines I am prescribed .Apart from the side effects if I took all the tramadol and paracetamol prescribed I would be a zombie .My husband and son who both suffer from pain will not take any painkillers as a matter of course but only when the pain gets really bad .If you take painkillers all the time you get so used to them that they become ineffective anyway

I have arthritis in my hip and have been seeing the physio for about 6 months to strengthen my muscles as she doesn't think I will qualify for a hip replacement. According to my xrays the arthritis is "mild" however the pain is anything but mild! I've been taking a mixture of paracetamol and co-codomol maximum dose every day but still have been in a lot of pain. I researched turmeric on the Internet and have been taking turmeric and ginger capsules for about 4 months and it''s made a huge difference. I can walk the dog twice a day and only get a dull ache now. When I ran out of turmeric for a few days the pain came back with a vengeance. The strengthening exercises also seem to be helping so I would advise anyone to try these solutions first before going for hip replacement which will be even harder to get now that the NHS is cutting back even more.

I entirely agree with Evie48. Turmeric does make a huge difference in pain. I was told my knee was bone on bone and that I must have a knee replacement. That was 2 years ago. I started Turmeric, making my own Golden Paste with Ginger Black pepper Cinnamon and Olive oil. Take one teaspoonful in warm Almond or Cashew nut Milk and I am miles better. I wear a knee support and do swimming and going to the gym as exercises do help and so far I am managing without the Replacement surgery. So yes, I would reccommend any one to take Turmeric for Arthretic pain, I must stress that you must talk to your GP and find out if it would interact with any medication that you are on, prticularly for Diabetes or you are on Blood thinners like Warfarin or X-Ralto. You can read up on Turmeric For Health Website which gives you all the information. I also agree with JazzyC that if youo take the painkillers all the time, you become immune to them and they are not so effective. Ristrict the pain killers to as and when required basis rather than regularly.

Hi all! I havn't been on for a while but do keep up to date with the messages..so far i am doing really well with my new knee..no pain now..it's a bit stiff when i come down the stairs but otherwise no problems except i am suffering from bad insomnia..i have trouble sleeping anyway and take sleeping pills (bad i know) but am now lucky if a get 2/3 hours sleep a night.
I am excersing and going for long walks so don't think it's because I'm not being active plus i have lots of animals to care for which keeps me busy.
I wondered if anyone else has experienced this?
I have seen my GP but was just told to stop taking the sleeping pills..i have asked to be referred to a sleep disorder clinic as i would like to give these pills up but have been on them for a long time so am now addicted to them but was met with silence. And told to just stop taking them (easier said than done) i am feeling really depressed through lack of sleep and have no one to confide in as my family either live abroad r a long way away and when i speak with them i don;t want to worry them so try to sound cheerful.
I would be grateful if you have any advice for me..many thanks.

Hi, you have probably had loads of 'helpful' suggestions already, and I know my sleeping problems will probably have been totally different to yours, but If it could help, then great.
My sleepless nights lasted for over two years, tried literally everything and was resigned to a narky, sleepless future. Until, a blood test came back positive for the menopause. Nothing changed for next year, then I decided, for sake of menopause symptoms, to start taking hrt treatment. Within a fortnight, I was sleeping all night every night. Still on hrt two years down the line and still sleeping.
Admittedly on the few nights I might go to bed early, before 10pm, I do have restless night, I definitely cannot have frequent early nights as this does restart sleepless nights. I deliberately only sleep between 11pm and 7am as, that with hrt keeps me dreaming all night, happily.
Sorry for rant and if it doesn't help, I'm sorry, but it did remind me of how low I felt when in your position.
If you do find a cure for you, can you let me know what works for you.

I was on HRT and sleeping tablets for a few years and then I weaned myself off them. I am past the menopause but still dont sleep well. If I am lucky I sleep for two or three hours and then wake up again, dose off for an hour or so just to wake up again and so on until its time to get up. I have tried every thing possible but nothing helps.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
