Hi everyone,
I have just joined and was wondering if anyone had tried more natural ways of reducing the pain of osteoarthritis. My 30 yr old nephew who had, for many years, debilitating rheumatoid arthritis throughout his body, went on a 30 day juicing programme which he stuck to rigidly. At the end of the 30 days his symptoms had reduced so much (but not completely) that he decided to do a further 30 days of this programme to see if he could get to a pain-free state. By the end of the 60 days he looked amazing, was totally pain free, feeling healthier than ever, had lots of energy, sleeping well and was back to cycling, going to the gym and no longer spending most of his time in bed.
I have been a reflexologist for 10 years and this has taken a toll on my fingers, hands and wrist joints. I have very little grip and my fingers have started to twist with the knuckle joints swollen and stiff. I also have trigger finger . I have decided to try the juicing programme - figure it can't hurt. Was wondering if anyone else had tried this? (Forgot to mention, my nephew is now off his medication completely and on his last visit to the hospital, his specialist couldn't believe the difference in him)

Hi. I am a new member. My rheumatologist put me on Plaquenil five weeks ago. He told me it will take some months before I feel any effects. My hands and wrists are really stiff and sore in the mornings so I immerse them in hot water for great relief. Has anyone used this medicine ?. I had to get my sight tested before I started this treatment and again six months after start.

I suffer from severe osteoarthritis in most joints and because I was having such difficulty walking was taking two Cocodamol each morning just to get out of bed , then repeating this through the day.
about 18 months ago I started taking natural Boswellia Serrata ..... Great results ... I now hardly use painkillers at all.
i take 200 mg in the morning and another 200mg at night

Having tried may painkillers and anti-inflamatories my next option is surgery. One finger on both hands is very swollen and painful to move and incredibly tender to touch. I am researching the option of having the middle joint fused. Has anyone had this done and what was the outcome?

I was told that fusion was the only answer for the pain in my toes, but I didn't want to have it done .... Started on the BOSWELLIA and it has really helped. I have just had an artificial joint put in my thumb .... Ten weeks ago.... Hoping that will solve the lack of mobility there. I just wish they would fund new big toe joints on NHS as I could have it done privately but cant afford it!

Hi everybody. I am new here and I have suffered with OA in both my hands for the past three years. Had operation on my thumbs. Has helped a little, but my strength and grip is very poor. My hands still get inflamed and like today I just cant lift a thing. I have been on all medication you can think of. I decided to stop them all as the side affects were bad and I was told they were doing more damage than good. So I have been off all my medication now for 4 months and taking natural mineral tablets daily. I do feel more alert and not so tired, but when I do have an attack I take only paracetamol and heat my hands from my bean bag.
I have learnt to meditate when I rest with an attack and most times it works. My problem now is that it has started in my feet and ankles. Believe me, the pain is worse than I have ever experienced with my hands. The pain got so bad, I had to go back to my doctor and get a prescription for morphine. I am very scared to take it, and I will only use it as my last resort. I have also been waking up middle of night with pain in my right knee.
I have been told that my arthritis is right through me and I can thank my sporting days for that. I am 58 years of age and I have had to stop working. I also find that stess can bring a flare up, so I tend to try and stay calm in times of worry.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
