Morning Carol and everyone
I know what you mean about pain and dose going up etc......I put off going on MST for a long time until I could bear it no longer...My life was going downhill fast. I've had OA, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, for about 10 years now so I've been in pain but could self manage it.
Now since this fracture of the greater trochanter bone I cant. So I've given in {after nearly 2 years} and was on the lowest dose for a while and then last night started one step up. I hopefully wont have to go any further than that. Last night was the first 10mg I took and I did sleep better. I'm a bit sore this morning but it is manageable and at 10am I take my first one. It'll take a few days before I have any idea whether it is making any difference. I'm volunteering for arthritis care this morning again so I'll be in the middle of that when I need to take the tablet. I set my mobile alarm for that particular one.
Love, Hileena

I am a new member. I have osteoarthritis everywhere. I can't take anti-inflammatories, and that includes ibuprofen. Currently, I am taking the medium strength co-codamol. I am not sure whether it helps but there seems to be no alternative. My hips become very painful during the night and my feet are very sore.

UPDATE ON MST
Well I've been on the higher dose {10mg} for about 2 weeks now and it is not doing any good. He told me to use Oromorph for break through pain. He then said when I came back {about another 2 weeks from now} he would calculate how much Oromorph I had taken and the MST and then decide what was the best pain killing dose of MST,. I didn't take it for a long time but the last 3 mornings I've taken 5 ml when I've got up. Very sore and my leg kept giving way
That's the latest with me.
Hope you are all doing as well as can be expected
Love

OK, I must say thanks to all who have posted on this thread; I found the content extremely interesting and helpful.
There are a few posts that I'd like to reply to, but there doesn't seem to be a "QUOTE" facility on this site; or have I missed seeing one??
I do find Ibuprofen helps; although I try not to take them on a regular basis. I'm also trying the vitamin and health supplements route to better mobility; Turmeric capsules, Glucosamine Chondroitin, Magnesium tabs, Vit'D3 tabs, B12, sublingual, tabs and an occasional Folate tab, I also get a B12, injection every 10, weeks.
My GP, has prescribed 400mg Ibuprofen, 30/500, Co,Codamaol Capsules and Omeprazole 20mg.
While reading through the posts on this thread; I've realised there is no quick fix; or one medication suits all..
Seems that we have a "Trial & Error" regime with the NHS; and there's no time limit on finding some pain relief, or remedy; the cogs of the NHS seem to move very slowly.
I'm attending the Physiotherapy Dept at the Local Hospital and beginning Hydrotherapy this week. I've also been referred to the Orthopaedic dept; and awaiting an appointment for a Body-Scan.
JUICING?? One of you posted an article about a juicing programme; but didn't post the actual programme to follow. I would very much like to find the juicing programme you were writing about.
My thanks to all who post; it's appreciated by me; I find reading your potential remedies for pain relief, very helpful..

Hi everyone,
I have just joined and was wondering if anyone had tried more natural ways of reducing the pain of osteoarthritis. My 30 yr old nephew who had, for many years, debilitating rheumatoid arthritis throughout his body, went on a 30 day juicing programme which he stuck to rigidly. At the end of the 30 days his symptoms had reduced so much (but not completely) that he decided to do a further 30 days of this programme to see if he could get to a pain-free state. By the end of the 60 days he looked amazing, was totally pain free, feeling healthier than ever, had lots of energy, sleeping well and was back to cycling, going to the gym and no longer spending most of his time in bed.
I have been a reflexologist for 10 years and this has taken a toll on my fingers, hands and wrist joints. I have very little grip and my fingers have started to twist with the knuckle joints swollen and stiff. I also have trigger finger . I have decided to try the juicing programme - figure it can't hurt. Was wondering if anyone else had tried this? (Forgot to mention, my nephew is now off his medication completely and on his last visit to the hospital, his specialist couldn't believe the difference in him)
Hi Silverbirch, can you post A COPY of the JUICING PROGRAMME your Nephew followed?
Thanks

Hello all, I would really be interested to see the juicing programme that the nephew of Silverbirch had great success with. At the moment I would try anything to alleviate some of this awful pain.
wishing you all a low pain day xx

I was told by my GP to take a cocktail of ibuprofen and paracetamol to 'take the edge off' the pain of the arthritis in my hands and neck. I was not happy about this because of the likely side effects and I thought that, as my body got used to these meds, I would have to increase the dosage. Not a situation I wanted to be in. The arthritis in my fingers meant that any tasks were difficult and painful. Driving was risky as I couldn't turn my head far enough to see approaching traffic. My solution was to use magnets and related products. I have had real success with the products I use - no more neck pain and full use of my hands. Happy to give more info if anyone wants this.

Hi All, Sorry I havent been on recently. Having problems with my computer.
Anyway and update on the MST. The GP had put me on 10mg instead of the original 5mg. He also said to take oromorph as needed. I could have 5ml 4 times a day if necessary.
I have only been taking it once a day and had to go back and see him and tell him how often i had taken it. In the three weeks time I had taken 5 mls 12 times. He said does that mean that the days you didnt take 5mls you were pain free? Well not exactly but it wasnt as bad as the days I took 5mls of it. So he said.....Dont play catch up, stay on top of your pain. I've been told now to take 5ml every day....not just when I feel like it LOL
It does seem to be helping the pain. Sorry about this post but the computer keeps freezing on me

I get arthritis in my thumb/wrist and my knees, I'm on very strong pain medication for my back problem so can't take any other medication for my arthritis so I tend to take cod liver oil every day and I think it does help, it could be in my mind but if it works then why not use it!
My ex-wife had acupuncture for her pain and said she did get some relief, not total yet enough to make it more bearable. I will try anything if it's going to help and have bought gadgets etc. as far as I'm concerned spending a few pounds might just give you that bit of extra relief and if it doesn't work, oh well at least I gave it a try.

Hello, Joanna here. I am a new member and have had great pain relief when using magnets. I use these as an alternative to a cocktail of paracetamol and ibuprofen as prescribed by my GP. I posted this last week and someone asked me for more info but I then couldn't find the person who posted. I am a distributor for the company so don't want to advertise here. If anyone wants more information please send me an email joannawestwater@yahoo.co.uk

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
