Wheat bags in various shapes, heated in the microwave - long thin one for my wrist, chunky oblong for my back, V shape for my neck - these are the things that give me the most instant relief. E-bay is a good source.

I am a new member with osteoarthritis. My pain is in my knees and legs when I walk or stand. I am housebound for this reason. I have tried so many things for the pain and really nothing has helped me. My doctor prescribes co-codamol and I had injections in my knees at the hospital, which didn't help, as they may have been put in the wrong place. Last time I went to the hospital (in May) I had x-rays of my legs and knees and the doctor there said I could have injections again with the help of the x-rays. I am waiting to hear when I can have these. My legs are also very swollen so they do not recommend a knee replacement for me.
I have sent off for a number of so-called pain relief medicines and creams etc from America, which some people claim are marvellous. But I am not going to recommend anything that did not work for me. They are expensive but I will try anything.

I have had acupuncture on other issues in the past and had good results.
Had a short course on the osteoarthritis in my knee on the NHS was starting to work but unfortunately they don't allow you enough appointments to make a long term result

Since i last posted, I have been reading all these comments. I have to come to the conclusion I will just stick with my Physiotherapist the exercises he recommends and his awesome massages. As this works for me. My meds are being tweeked at my next Drs app.

Hi
I had counselling about 18 months ago....not for pain but more for lack of self esteem. My thoughts on things like this are ....if I haven't tried it, give it a go, cant do much harm and it might do some good. It did help at the time
Good luck, let us know what happens

Morning all,
Its the ungodly hour of 5.30am. I'm sitting here drinking a cup of tea. We are going away for days with Arthritis Care and its a coach trip so have to be up and out for a certain time.
I've not had any tablets because the 2 main painkillers are ones that you take 12 hours apart!!!!! Needless to say I'm in agony. I've taken 2 paracetamol......just realised as I was typing that there was noting to stop me taking those. I doubt that they'll do much good but worth a try
Hear you all Mon night or Tuesday

Hi @Hileena - by the time you read this, hope you had a good trip. How did you cope with the coach travel? I struggle on a coach with my back pain, so hope it went well for you. DO let us have your news from the weekend.

Hi Suncatcher
Got back at 5.30pm today {Mon} The coach wasn't bad because with it being an arthritis care trip and we always use the same coach company they are good and know how often and how long to stop to give us breaks.
I enjoyed it except for the nights/mornings......in agony every morning and could hardly move. I think its because we did too much walking, Fri Sat and Sun. Doesn't sound much but it was. It was enjoyable but the results weren't. I have gone on these trips without my husband before now and with us all being in the same boat a lot of it is .....if we are dropped off at a shopping centre we shop but spend a lot of time having coffee and chatting Men!!!! their idea of a cup of coffee is, order it, sit down and drink it and then he is ready to move Don't get me wrong he is very supportive and does a lot for me but for these holidays I would rather be with the group......Oh well cant be helped. I'm just about to lather some cream on before going to bed
Hear you later

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
