Hi, I'm sorry your in a lot of pain. You say you have extreme bloating and pain. Do you drink or drink wine? that would make you bloat and pain. Have you seen a Dr about this to get it checked? Drinking makes fluid which can make you feel that way and cause all sorts of problems, then again a lot of other things can too. I'm not in a position to say what is wrong or not. You should see your GP to get this checked out because your body could be making fluid and if this the case the Dr will treat you for it. I know your looking for answers on here but, you really need to get checked out by a Dr. because extreme bloating and pain isn't normal.
When my hubby had his last Heart Attack, he gave up smoking he had been smoking since he was 13 years of age. Then he took up drinking red wine 2013, 1-2 glasses at first but that didn't help, his nerves made worse from the Heart Attack. In the end he drank 1-2 bottles of red wine a night, sometime 3 bottles. His GP told him to stop, he didn't take notice. A few weeks back the GP sent him for an Ultra sound on his liver. His liver is half fat with patches on it. He has got to have a CAT scan next week. The GP told hubby if he didn't stop the drinking he will be dead within 3 months. He is worries sick about what the results of the CAT scan will say. He stopped drinking red wine 8th February this year and now drinks water in its place, changed his diet, plus he has lost 1 stone in weight up to now and most of that was fluid. He is worried everyday about the CAT scan results. I hope this information helps you.
Best Wishes and Take Care.

I didn't have time to mention any more on my last post. There could be another reason for your bloating and pains. But, like I said, only a Dr. can diagnose what is wrong with you, not me or anyone else.
I've got Hiatus Hernia and have had bad bloating and severe pain too. My stomach gets very bloated around the abdomen with severe pain in my gullet and throat, my throat felt like it was being strangled. The pain fluctuated from throat to stomach, to tummy and back up to stomach and back to throat. The pain is awful, its really severe I thought I was going to die and I was in tears as it was so bad. Sometimes I've had this last for a few days and sometimes for an hour or less. I was told, it can be mistaken for a Heart Attack. I've had 4 of these episodes and...phew! I don't want any more of them. Since I've changed my diet and lost some weight I don't get this any more. Shh! I shouldn't speak too soon...lol I take Omeprazole for this but, I find if I forget to take my medication, I start to feel the effect of the Hiatus Hernia, but not bad. I then take my medication again. And, I sometimes take Gaviscon for this as well, depending how bad it is at the time. The medication keeps it under control very well but, sometimes depends on what foods I've eaten., I always keep Rennies in my bag when out and about, just in-case the Hiatus Hernia starts to play me up until I get home again. It all depends on what foods I eat too.
Anyway, I hope this helps you too. But as I said before, you should go and see your GP to get checked out
Best Wishes

I have a badly clinically depressed friend who also suffers sever chronic pain: she was on this and was near suicidal at the amount of weight she gained. I guess you just have to weigh up the pro's & con's in each individual case.

Hi Ruby,
I have been on pregablin for quite a while now as I live in constant pain and take quite a low of pain medication. I have put a lot of weight on over the years but didn't actually put any of it down to the pills & you've certainly made me think about it. I am going to ask my doctor when I see him next week & see what he has to say.

Hi I have been on pregabalin 100mg 3* a day for the last seven years. Previously I was on gapapentin 300mg 3* a day. I had to change medication due to some side effects mainly a skin rash and waking up completely covered in water it was as if all of my pores were leaking..
It seems that both pregabalin and gabapentin work in a similar way but pregabalin does so at a lower dose with less side effects.
Fortunately I have not suffered any weight gain if anything I have lost my appetite and the only side effects that I have are tiredness and a foggy brain. I get tired daily and I often go to bed for a half to one hour, this is usually enough to awaken me! I can have a foggy brain 2 to 3 times a week and I now have notepads in every room, these are in prominent positions such as on doors or my computer screen. This works for me and it could be worth trying if you also suffer from a foggy brain.
I also take prozac twice a day to help keep me calm, and amitriptyline at bedtime to help me sleep. With the amitriptyline I take them immediately before going to bed because when taken earlier it is possible to go passed the falling asleep stage and as such it nullifies their good side effects, i.e. sleep.
Best wishes John.

I had put on 6kg of weight when I was on pregablin. I came off it in June 2015 and lost all 6kg and more. No, I have not had any side effects from coming off the medication and I am glad that I came off it. I now have just 1 50mg capsule of tramadol a day. Pregablin and Gabapentine tablets should not be taken over a long period of time. Your doctor should advise you to come off them and try something else.
Hope this helps. Good luck

Hi there Astra
Reading your post sounds as though you suffer from a lot of Acidity in your stomach and oesophagus(Gullet) have you ever had a camera put down your gullet and into the stomach(Gastroscopy). Some times a lot of acidty in your gullet burns your throat. As you are also taking Gaviscon and Rennie from time to time, it sounds as you are suffering badly from the Acididty. Was your Hiatus Hernia diagnosed as a result of Gastroscopy? Have you ever been told you might have Barrats Oesophagus?
If in doubt, do see your GP and if you continue to suffer from bloating and sever acidity, request for further investigations. Don't just put up with it.
Best wishes

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
