I know exactly what you mean Daren - the most damaging episode for me was after my car accident. Originally I didn't go to hospital, the 'I'm all right, need to get back to the children' routing - I carried on working till I collapsed in the office some days later. They x-rayed my lumbar spine as I mentioned the accident, but this was in the very early days of seat belt injury, when it had not long been law, and they didn't x-ray the thoracic spine. I was admitted to the medical ward and the specialist in charge recorded in the notes, that he could find no cause for the symptoms and believed I was suffering from 'hysteria' despite the fact that I am a very calm and collected sort of person, and that I was 'manifesting' the symptoms. That really helped the case against the lorry driver later!!!
Fortunately for me, he had a third year student on his team seconded from Queens Medical Centre at Nottingham. He thought I didn't seem like the hysterical type, and got permission, grudgingly, from the specialist to refer me to QMC for a myelogram. I bumped my way to Nottingham sitting up in a passenger ambulance, had he myelogram and within minutes, my head was immobilised, all pillows removed and I was admitted to the orthopedic ward for immediate surgery on a fractured spine and compressed spinal chord.
Hmm, was ever there a misdiagnosis!!!! So much for my being hysterical and making up the symptoms, but that one line in the notes caused me heaps of problems in the court case.
At the moment we are hanging on in there for a diagnosis with my husband, and again, the symptoms don't add up to any one condition.
Sympathy to you from one who has been there!!!

@Suncatcher2015 , Thank you .. You sound like you have been through hell . You are lucky that they finally gave the correct diagnosis and they did the surgery . I am having exactly the same problems with my neck . I want to be referred to Basildon Hospital . I have been told I have the right to a second opinion , I just have to change my GP . My symptoms are very real and nothing to do with anxiety . I know the problem in my neck gives me toothache , I just have to get them to believe me :-)

I've now been switched in terms of my meds, because I was having suicidal thoughts. I was on Sertaline 100mgs once a day but am now on Fluxoetine instead. I've only started this last week after seeing the doctor but I still don't feel any difference at all. I'm going back to the doctor in a couple of weeks to see if the Fluoxetine is helping me.
My doctor is also sending me for individual counselling but she has warned that even with my suicidal thoughts, it can still take up to 6/8 weeks to get an appointment. I also feel like I've basically been made to go by my husband as he's had two friends commit suicide and he was the person who found one of them after he died. I don't feel hopeful about any kind of counselling if I'm honest and I feel like I'm only going to shut my husband up and stop him threatening to tell my parents who don't know about my depression.

Hi, I'm on Primidone and pheynotoin {for epilepsy} which thank goodness has been well controlled for 35 years now but I still take meds. That is a nuisance in as much as other med for other ailments that they suggest are contraindicated
I have OA {had 2 hip replacements}, spinal stenosis, osteoporosis, My meds are Naproxen {full dose} and paracetamol {full dose} those are the pain ones except for codeine 25 x 2 a day. The rest are stomach ones because of the meds I take BP and osteoporosis one. Shake me and I rattle
The most recent things is....... months post op {THR} I was doing an NHS exercise and my leg gave way, into hospital, You have fractured your greater trochanter bone, it will heal but will take a long time. This was from an emergency consultant at the weekend. Later I saw the consultant that did my hip replacements and he said it will never heal. The bone has fractured and the muscle has been stretched so much it will never go back onto place. I've been opn crutches for 20 months now. That's not the worse thing....Recently the pain has got unbearable. The only thing he could suggest was a cortisone injection....first one worked...5 months almost pain free, 2nd one was useless....he decided to put it in a different place, this last one was 10 days agoe and it doesn't seem to be working. Waking up in the morning almost unable to get out of bed with the pain. I am usually a glass half full person. I'm a volunteer for Arthritis Care and talk to people about arthritis but since this fracture I've been really "down" not coping very well at all
Sorry for the ramble

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
