I have osteoarthritis in my hands, feet, knees, spine and neck. I am obese and I know that losing weight would help. I have recently been prescribed amitriptyline to help with head aches that wake me at night (these are due to nerve impingement in my neck). The new medication knocks me for six so it means I sleep - but too much! I find it really hard to wake in the mornings and I feel hungover. It is fantastic at pain-relief for night time but I still struggle during the day. I have mental health problems and find that I cannot take opioids or opiates or any of the pregabalin type drugs. I have finally been referred to a pain clinic and will be interested to see what they have to say.

I'm on Amitriptyline and it did make me feel hungover for the first week but has worn off now. I've had Clonazepam added into the mix this week to help with my muscle spasms and that make me feel a bit dopy in the mornings, hopefully that will pass too!

Hi I have had facet joint injections on 7/12 various points in my back & quite alot, it was pretty painful I wasn't to good when I sat up so was in the clinic longer than expected. Felt pretty positive on the way home, next morning felt no pain. This continued 1 week, 2 week, up to week 3 feeling good & walking better standing straight. But im starting to feel it niggling again. My consultant said before the injections he felt that I was going to benefit from regular injections so will see what they say at my follow appointment on 12 January. Although the pain is starting again & have been able to reduce the sovredol(morophine) to2 a day at the moment it is nice to not be in to much pain but I don't think it is going to lat long.

My doctor prescribed amitriptyline to be taken at night and it really helps. I am still taking tramadol and gabapantin during the day. Some people on here have issues with tramadol (I have heard doctors sre taking patients off them) can someone enlighten me please as I find them most effective. Thank you.

Hi,
I had facet injections and they didn't work at all for me but everyone's different.
I think 3 weeks isn't bad especially since you have lowered your meds and are not in the same amount of pain that you were. Your consultant said regular ones would help so it sounds as if {to me anyway} that's a result. Some injections you cant have very often but if your consultant is going to give you regular ones that sounds good.
Take every little bit. I think if it lessens your pain that's great.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Has anyone any experience if gabapentin? Have just been this alongside tramadal. Would be interested to hear peoples views. Thanks.
