I too use mindfulness exercises and love crafts , I make cards for charity among other things. As for the medicines I know what you mean , my son once worked out that with nebules and inhalers for asthma I'm on anything between 60 or 70 medicines depending how many painkillers I take in a day .

Having read through all your comments I can only advise on personal experience of having osteoarthritis for over 30 years and going through the system of traditional medicines that what I am currently taking for the past 3 years has been the best decision for my quality of life and health.. I take natural aloe vera drinking gel with supplements which have decreased my pain level and allowed me to come off all traditional medicines thus eliminating side effects from drugs aswell. Dont get me wrong its not a cure but I can do so much more than before plus brain fog from high pain relief is a thing of the past, and my energy levels have increased greatly.. if you want to know more please do message me as would love to help others xxx

Hi
I posted a while back about the consultant doing an aspiration on both knees and sending samples of to the Lab to see if there was anything other than just OA. Well while I was waiting for the appointment {the results} I was getting sorer every day. The day I had to see the consultant which was last Thursday I walked in really sore and he said how are you? and I said very sore and its getting worse. He looked surprised and said I've got the results back from the lab and there isn't a thing showing up so I don't know what it can be? After talking for a little while he said "When did you last have your knees X Rayed....he answered his own question by checking the computer......4 months ago. He said that's not very long but I'll send you for another one anyway. So I toddled along to the X Ray dept, had them done then back to him. I walked in and he was sitting looking shocked.....come and look at these 2 X Rays? The one done a few minutes ago and the one done 4 months ago....He pulled both of them up on the computer and they were completely different.
As he said the one done on Thursday.....the knee cap had disappeared completely.....it was behind the rest of the knee.
I was walking on Bone on Bone...he then said its no wonder you came in sore. That means a complete knee replacement. That will be February. Then he said Hang on a minute, I'm going to twist a few arms
He came off the computer and said how would the 18th of November suit ....well compared to middle of February that was fantastic So November it is. Its about 9 10 weeks which isn't long but when you are in pain its long.....Never mind its sorted
I'm going to be the Bionic Woman {Almost} that's 2 Total Hip Replacements and 1 Total knee replacement
Love

Hi, I have read these posts with interest. I had my left knee replaced three years ago and was due to have my other knee replaced as soon as I could put all my weight on it, but have decided not to go through with surgery. My knee is permanently bent and it hurts at times, but I have learnt to live with one good knee and one bad knee, and cannot face having both knees replaced. My new knee causes me a different sort of pain, especially at night time. I guess by now you have had your knee replaced and I hope it well for you, and when you feel like it, I would be interested in how you are coping with your new knee.

I am waiting for an Orthoscopy on Thursday. Hopefully it will show the necessity of the replacement. I am hopeful but not certain.

Hi Gizzledoggie
I haven't had my replacement yet {if it was me that you were posting that last message to}
Its going to be the 18th November......this is still October........I only got the diagnosis last week.
It's fairly quick but not quick when you are walking on bone on bone So 9 to 10 weeks before its done but the original date was going to be February!!
Love

Hi gizzledoggie. I entirely agree with your points of view. Knee replacement 4 years ago as soon as I recovered the right one too. Only it took me almost two years to recover and like you I would rather have one good knee one bad than go thru the op again and long recovery time. Never regret having it done tho. Best thing I ever did

I'm 43 and have OA in one knee after medial meniscus surgery 18 months ago - there was a little beforehand but in 18 months I've gone from being able to play squash and dance a few times a week to being in constant pain and struggling to get up the stairs. Its leaving me exhausted. I got the results of my latest MRI on Friday the lateral compartment and ligaments look ok but the medial compartment is basically screwed - moderate medial degenerative change and severe degeneration of the medial facet patellar articular cartilage. I was told I was too young for a knee replacement and it was my only option, to go away and take more painkillers and keep up with the physio. I was really angry, I feel as though I'm old before my time and I'm being refused a treatment that will help on the assumption I might live 10-15 years for it to wear out! I was given no idea when I would be old enough for a replacement and go away and suffer doesn't really seem acceptable. After some reading around I'm going to see a chap at UCLH that specialises in knee and hip joint preservation. His techniques are aimed at people like me who are too young for joint replacement but in significant amounts of pain - I'll keep my fingers crossed he can offer some help. Until then I'll keep going with the daily swimming and weekly massage therapy and physio which all seem to help no end, as well as they 40 mins of physio every night. I just hate to think this is it for the rest of my life.

I sympathise , my husband has had problems with his knee for ten years and was told he was to young for a replacement . After a few years and a change of consultant he was given pain killing injections but he developed diabetes as a result and has heart problems .He went to see another consultant at a different hospital yesterday .He is reluctant to do a full replacement because of his other health problems but is going to do key hole surgery on it in z month and see how that goes . Don't let the experts fob you off or you might end up in the same situation which is ridiculous and the stupid thing is that in the long run it will cost the NHS more

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
