I have had osteoarthritis in my knees, back and hips and shoulder and I too have been told that I'm thinking too young for a knee replacement even though it would change my life not just physically but mentally too .I've tried lots of the pain clinic treatments, nerve blocks etc which only give temporary relief from excutating pain .I've changed my diet I'm trying light exercise so what is the answer

Hello Eileen
I think you should request to have an MRI scan of your spine if you are having sharp burning pain in your back or spine and be referred to a Neurosurgeon. Talk to your GP about it without delay.
Good luck. let me know how you get on.

Hi Nineteengale
Thanks for your reply. The fact that it only started on Sunday evening and it was only Tuesday when I typed the message in here I hadn't got round to it but I think you are right. I'll get in touch with the GP this morning
Love
Eileen

I know it's hard, but exercise is the best way to help alleviate some pain. . I was asked to foster a puppy whose mum had died at four weeks. No way she was going any where else after bottle feeding her sitting up all night on occasion. I knew she had to go on walks. We started together. At twelve weeks we were walking round my daughters stables and fields, then gradually increased the length bit by bit.
Now we walk at least twice a day for about hour and a half each walk.. Must admit I drive to where we will walk as my knees cannot take pavements. Softer ground absorbs impact. I also take turmeric but only three times a week as it made my stomach feel very raw, every day.
i also go to Aqua fit twice a week. This is the time I am totally pain free in water, able to exercise well. It is so good to move without pain, it has made my muscles stronger, my body looser, my blood pressure lower. I am even pain free up to an hour after the exercise. Get your GP to refer you for Hydrotherapy first then get down to locza leisure centre. You will not regret it. The GP can give you membership to leisure centre, to encourage exercise.

For Eileen, This sounds awful and extreme. My first response is that it sounds like something has happened in your spine, to cause that awful pain. If I were you I would insist on an urgent appointment with the consultant as this does, as said, sound extreme and urgent.

Hi Ediemay, This is, for me, one of the most helpful things I've read - possibly because of the dog! - I will ask my GP for the hydrotherapy referral as it sounds like the way to start, for me. Due to my costochondritis in ribs and sternum, any movement causes a flare-up of severe pain but hydro sounds like a good start. I did once try going to a gym, felt brilliant for a few days and overdid it, ending up on my bed for 3 days. So am wary but prepared to try. Hopefully will lose some weight too as am 1 stone overweight.

Hi Lochlassie, after such a fit lifestyle it's very sad to hear of your pain. I look forward to hearing about the trial of the new meds. We're all desperate for something that works, not only for the pain but to HEAL our conditions!

Hi
Well, A dog is out I'm on crutches permanently.
I couldn't get an appointment with my GP but did manage a walk in centre. After examination he said it seemed to be a positional thing. Possibly whatever way I was on the bed when having the aspiration
Gentle exercise, gentle movement and pain killers If it got any worse to get back to him

Knee and Hip OA>
I have managed my knee arthritis with FLEXISEX - this is a fantastic gel, and for the non believers it certainly is worth a try. You MUST be patient and use exactly as mentioned. From really struggling to walk ( right knee worse than left ) I have absolutely no pain at all now. I have tried it on my hip which sadly now is also affected, but sad to say does not work as well as the knee.
I would be interested to know of anyone using FLEXISEX successfully on heir hip. For those of you who have not tried this for your knee/s please try as it has totally changed my life.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
