Following adverse reports on the Anti inflammatory drug called Celebrex, I was advised by my GP to stop taking Celebrex as it causes cardiac problems. I suffer from OA of my spine, knees and fingers. I stopped taking Celebrex 7 moths ago, and started taking Ginger, Cinnamon and Turmeric, as well as Glucosamine sulphate and its partner MSM. I can say that I do find the combination of all that I am taking. beneficial. I also take Cod liver oil and Omega3. Sure I still do have arthritic pains, but the progress is slow ad the pain is tolerable. I do exercises as well as swim twice a week, and all that helps too. Turmeric has may health benefits, not just Arthritis. It is also antiseptic and aids tummy upset too. So even if you don't find any benefit to your joints, it will help I may other ways too. You can get high strength Turmeric supplements, or you can make your own by adding a quarter teaspoon of Turmeric to half a glass of milk and take it once a day, preferably in the morning. If you don't like the bitter taste, you can add honey to it which also has many health benefits. If you take the mixture, drink it with a straw to prevent yellowing of the teeth, and swill your mouth out immediately after the drink.

I always take a course of something when I have arthritic pain, I do one or the other,
sometimes its tumeric and pineapple, sometimes selenium ACE and sometimes just cod liver oil and a multi vit with low vitamin a amount. Or I may just stick to the osteocare supplement although I take that most of the time now any way because I have osteoporosis as well.
I don't know if the Tumeric helped as I only did 3 weeks, it may be I need to take it for much longer to really notice, its difficult when you are doing different things to help different things. It is an anti inflammatory food as is pineapple, ginger etc. Its good to eat fresh pineapple and cherry juice is another anti inflammatory food also. If you use fresh tumeric root in cooking or even powdered tumeric always add some black pepper its said to help the absorption..

I dare to speak too soon, but I have started taking Turmeric capsules 2/3 weeks ago, and the acute pain and inflammation in my thumb joint is definitely easing. Am due to see a hand surgeon, and don't like the idea of needles into the joint, but if the turmeric is making such a difference, I'll carry on with it!

Hi,
I have started recently to massage my knee joint with Coconut Oil after hearing so many reports of it being good for inflamation etc. early days but may be having some affect! Be interested in knowing if anyone else has tried this? May be one of those "miracle cure" issues but hey ho, will try it once!!!

Hi Stevec200
If coconut oil helps with your painful knees, I will be very interested to know. Coconut oil has many benefits and there is certainly lot about it in the media these days. I am using Glucosamine Sulphate with Emu oil on my knees, but I can not swear to it as I take other things in combination. If you find a definite difference for the better with the coconut oil massage to your knees, I will be very interested to know.
Many thanks

Hi
I have OA in my knee - have been taking turmeric in different forms but then came upon the Turmeric Users Group UK on FB - they use GP which is short for Golden Paste - consists of Organic Turmeric, black pepper (which increases the effectiveness of the turmeric), coconut oil and water. The recipe is in the files when you join. I also add organic cinnamon (not cassia) and ginger to my paste. All my friends with arthritis problems are now taking turmeric in some for - even in the capsule form and all find that it helps with the pain. You should also limit your sugar intake as this causes inflammation.

Thanks for all your replies,I am continuing to take the tumeric and cinnamon and I feel it is giving some relief but I am very active and sometimes I'm not sure if the pains/aches are from over activity!
Interesting advise on Coconut oil may also give that a try...

All your comments are very helpful,I take various medicines for conditions as I am just recovering from a DVT, Pulmonary e. in both lungs.I also have a large 6cm arachnoid cyst growing on my brain. To top it all I have just been diagnosed with OA in both knees,my thumb ,two fingers and much more painfully in my wrists. My doctor said as I take warfarin I cannot take an anti-inflammatory,only pain killers which are not helping at all.So could you recommend what I can use to stop some of this pain, your help would be really appreciated!

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
