Hi Nanaclaire
Today i went to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital to measured up for a Spinal Brace. Following my 2nd Repair of Scoliosis surgery, I ma bent from my hips and am having to use the crutches now for 3 and a half years. Walking bent, causes me tremendous back pain all the time. I am hoping that wearing a brace might give me some pain relief. I am told that I might never be straightened up, as when I take my brace off at night, I will be bent again. At least if i can walk more upright with the brace and less in pain, that will be something to be grateful for. I have to go back in 3 weeks time when the brace arrives. Will let you know the outcome.

Hi Clair
How is your pain control? What pain killers are you taking and how many a day do you require them? Have you tried any natural therapies? I know that you can not have Turmeric as you are a Diabetic. have you tried other things like Ginger, although it is a Turmeric family, fish oils, Glucosamine sulphate, MSM, Rose Hip with Vit.C, Devil's Claw, Boswella, Pinapple etc. There are a lot of Natural things out on the market. Its a matter of finding what best suits you. Too many painkillers or not good for you, they create other problems and destroy you organs. Are you able to swim or do some gentle exercises in water? Keeping on the move, how ever painful, is very important. Even chair exercises would help. Most important of all is being positive and making every effort to get your self better and not give up on yourself. I hope you don't mind me giving you encouragement
Take care

Hi there, thanks for the tips I do use ginger & spices in my cooking as I don't use any shop bought jars I make my my own sauces in fact I made a pasta Bolognese today I must say it was good even grandchildren loved it. I've often thought of natural remedies. Unfortunately tho I can swim I found even that was painful,, I am on servedol 10mg I can take 1-2 tabs 4 times a day but I've never taken the fully whammy most I've taken is 4 in a day along with other meds I take (10 tabs am) &(4 tabs pm) I get pretty scared taking so much. Trying to be positive ive been going to a Persistant & Cronic Pain course I have it very interesting in controlling pain. I was on holiday last week & I did manage to walk a little bit more I was pleased with myself my back pain has returned got 5 weeks of very little pain from the injections had but I'm still moving around better than I was even tho it's painful I have a consultation in August. Loosing weight is a big issue for me too tho I have successfully lost 11lb so far.hope you are keeping well. X

Hi there
I am so glad that you are managing your pain better Let me know how your check up goes in August. I got my Spinal Brace today, and i am very disappointed. It does not help me straighten up at all and am still in just as much pain as before. The Brace is of wrong type. Even the Orthosis who fitted it agreed that its not the right type for me. Its very uncomfortable to wear and it does not pull my shoulders back to straighten me. I remain just as much bent as I was without the brace. I have been asked to persevere with it and in the mean time they are ordering a different type of brace. I have to go back on 15th Sept. Let's hope that it would be the right type of Brace this time.Have you tried other natural therapies or supplements such as Devil's Claw, Bromlain, Glucosamine sulphate, Turmeric milk, Fish oils etc?
Take care and keep moving.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Hi, I am new to this group and I have osteoarthritis, it is worst in my spine. I am having a Denervation (hope I've spelt that ok!) next week, has anyone else had this procedure? The doctor will destroy the ends of the nerves in the area that is most affected by the arthritis. I'm quite nervous, but really want to give this a go, the pain is getting difficult to manage.
