It may be worth getting an MRI, then you know exactly what you are dealing with, and ask your GP for a copy of the results, then when you have another done in the future you can see what the difference is for yourself, with being blindsided by your GP. Sorry as good as GP's are they only tell you what they think you need to know, which might be fine for some people but others, like me, need to know everything in detail.

Hi Yes I think I should have a MRI, I was even thinking of paying for one but why should I. We are currently movin g house and will be changing doctors so I will have a chat with them and see what they say. i saw my doctor the other day and he thinks I have a bulging disc, but like you say they are just guessing. thanks for the advice

You're more than welcome, shame on your current doctor for not sending you for a scan, especially if he thinks you might have a bulging disc.
If you have pain in you back, pelvis or leg, ask to be referred to a physio or better still a physio/acupuncturist they're brilliant!
Good luck

@wednesday Best of luck with it, I hope you receive the help you need soon and moving house doesn't cause you too much stress.

Received a letter saying I'm on the waiting list for an MRI... Not sure if this is related to the epilepsy or back pain?
Physio never worked and made my back pain worse. Doctor has called me in now for bone density scan... Am hoping this doesn't pick anything serious up, i.e. osteo related.

I would think that the MRI is for your back pain, I'm no expert but would think they would need a CT scan with contract for the epilepsy.

Update on bone density scan... Osteopenia (hip) and Osteoporosis (spine) have now been diagnosed... This is all new to me and am trying to understand why they call it a 'T Reading' and what the numbers mean when read, i.e. severity of scan?
Have been told to contact the doctor in 2 weeks' time for Vitamin D and Calcium supplements, and also to discuss a medication process. They advised due to the severity of the reading, they also want me under a Specialist?
As if I haven't enough health problems with the epilepsy... Another joy ride here we come!

@wednesday I, too, was diagnosed with a bulging disc in the same place as you and I had mine removed, eventually. I wish I could tell you that all was well after that, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case and I am still in pain. I waited so long for surgery that other things were damaged, too and this wasn’t put right by the surgery. The osteoarthritis has now spread to many other joints and nothing more appears to be on offer through the NHS. Reflexology and massage does ease the pain, but these have to be paid for and I cannot afford to go at the moment. I was on PIP and ESA, but my PIP was stopped just before Christmas, as, according to the assessor, I was fine, now, (I was reassessed as I dared to ask for some more money, seeing as how my problem had worsened and instead of awarding me more, they stopped it altogether)
Go and see your new doctor and ask for an MRI.

Thank you Lynne. I have been referred to the hospital, I hope they can get to the bottom of it. I doubt I would go down the operation route as I am 66 and have had many other ops. My husband slipped a disc and was operated on and is fine now, this was some years ago now. I can't believe they have stopped your PIPS, have you appealed. My sister had hers stopped and appealed, she won and was they were reinstated, plus back money. Got to be worth a try. Good luck

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Hi I have Osteoarthritis in my lower back multi level. This has progressed to Spinal Stenosis in my ankles and legs. I use a walking stick to get around and am house bound a lot lately due to difficulty walking for long periods. I have been offered decompression surgery on my spine and was wondering if anyone else has got good results from this?.
