Afternoon all, had it for over 20 years now and always in pain, had surgery on my spine, new knee and now they are talking about a new hip.Have been on methotrexate and humera plus others but i found that the side effects were to bad for me to manage so now i just struggle along with pain relief. i do find that moderate exercise does help to a certain degree though. keep smiling

Hi all, have osteoarthritis in my feet, both knees, hips replaced, fingers, wrists, shoulders, neck, plus in the spine together with spinal stenosis. I seem to spend most of my time sat down and use an office chair in kitchen to do chores. Wish there was more research as so many people suffer with it. I have buTrans 15mmg and take cocodamol as well. They help with trapped nerves. I tried 20mmg but were a little strong so reverted to 15 with top op. A hot water bottle helps a bit. Lack of mobility is so frustrating. I use to knit sew crosstitch crochet etc but can only do small bits, now. Stay safe and warm everyone

I have Osteo Arthritis in several joints, and recently it has been found I have gout too, I have had this from in my late thirties. The Thumb joints and shoulder joints cause a lot of problems with daily activities plus walking problems from the foot pain. True painkillers don't always work, but I found Aloe Vera or chilli ointments do help. What really annoys me is people cold calling and telling me this supplement works and that supplement works just in order to sell their over priced goods. There is no cure but everyone must try to find what works best for them . I use a splint on one thumb which I buy on line quite cheaply often cheaper than petrol or bus fares to hospital and many supplements can be purchased in the local herbal shop at reasonable prices if your income allows.

I have aching around the ankle joints they seem to go abit red, especially if I've walked alot or mainly at night when I am in bed.
Also get alot of leg cramps/aching and feeling of jumping sensations in both legs when resting.
Taking ibuprofen helps.

noticed Ibuprofen is mentioned , it does work quite well for most people and some of course have to use another drug with it to prevent stomach problems, unfortunately some people like myself cannot take Ibuprofen on a long term basis or things like codeine. We are all different.

I have arthritis in my left hip and knee but my doctor says I'm years away from hip replacement. Due to other drugs he will only prescribe paracetamol or co codamol but I have been taking turmeric capsules 3 times a day for a couple of months and it does seem to have helped. I get them online only from trusted sellers and they are very reasonably priced. I can usually cope with the pain during the day but I really struggle with sleeping as the pain is worse when I'm laying still. I always have to get up 2 or 3 times a night to move around and take more painkillers so my quality of sleep is not good.

Hi everyone. Have both OA and RA as well as Osteoporosis. Most of my joints have been affected and had to give up work 12 months ago because of it. In constant pain and have just recently found out that I have a drug allergy. As a result, I have been told not to take any medications of any kind until I've had further tests to try and pinpoint exactly what I'm allergic to. I have been taken off everything I was on and rhuemy have now told me that I cannot have the biologic treatment they were planning to give me until we get the results of the tests. Have tried all the other arthritis treatments and nearly ended up in hospital twice due to severe adverse reactions. In so much pain at the moment and struggling to get through each day. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and can tell me if there is any light at the end of the tunnel. Sorry for the long post.

Most folks on this forum are treated the same way by their GPs and hospitals when it comes to pain control - pills, patches, potions and lotions by the score, and I speak from experience! Perhaps some thought could be given to alternative therapies like herbal etc. Recently, much exposure is being given to the effectiveness of cannabis oil and other derivatives of this plant. Many US states have de-criminalised cannabis and people using this for pain relief report great results. Anyone here tried this or had it prescribed?

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
