I gave up smoking over 25 years ago and have just been diagnosed with lung cancer and heart damage on top of copd. I am on palative care at home but also fighting it with diet and supplements. I have no intention of giving in as I have too much to live for. I haven't been given any idea of how long i can expect to live but I hope to be around for a few more years.

My mom who was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer had not smoked for over 30 years she had 3 small tumours in her left lung after chemotherapy and radiotherapy the scans were clear she’s having immunotherapy now and has a scan today so fingers crossed everything is ok I have been smoking many years but am attending the quit smoking clinic at the moment

I have never ever smoked and neither has my middle sister. Our youngest sister used to smoke as did her wife, but they don't anymore. My brother and my partner both use ecigs,, but my brother's husband still smokes.
My dad passed away from terminal lung cancer in March this year and he was only 63.

i too like many others, started to smoke in my pre teens,,,i used to go to the shop to get my mums . fags,20 cadets,,lol . she used to buy me 10 for going to the shop...they were pennys to buy,,all my childhood hero smoked.from footballers to boxers, all the big film stars smoked, anyway..i got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer with tumour,in 2015..age 56 then. i asked my consultant if i should stop smokeing, his answer was,,,,the damage is already done, then he said i had 6 months, i continue to smoke,,,dont think i could give up,if i tried, ive had 10x radical chemo.cisk/visk, along with 31 fractions of radio,,now nearly 4 years on...im on tablets and doing ok. i started cbd oil from day 1,,,illegal then, but consultant told me where to get it, oh . and i been outside the hospital a few times for a ciggy,,,and seen my consultant having a crafty smoke,,,,,,

@johnno59 hi John, your story is exactly the same as mine done to mum smoking cadets lol.it gives me hope your story. I was diagnosed 12 months ago with stage 4 lung cancer, I did give up smoking but not because of the cancer I had given up 6 months before diagnosis. I'm hopeful I will still be here in 3 years but who knows, it just give me hope reading your comment.hope you continue to be ok. Thinking of trying CBD oil myself.

janette // smokeing def dont help ya with cancer,,,but it was explained to me,that lots of young people get this desease, who have never smoked at all, cancer does not discriminate,it can hit the rich/poor/young/old. being positive i thnk is half thr battle, i worked all the way through my treatments.. and arranged chemo and radio appointments after work,i can remember it well.dt=riving to work on motorway, feeling as sick as a dog...had to pull over on hard shoulder,,,,i was sick....then continued to work....to be honest ,most my problems now are down o radio therepy.....and i fear a secondry cancer,,which most people get ,caused by radio,,hope you continue to be ok,,dont give into it,,,

John, can't believe you worked through it, your so strong. I was told from diagnosis I couldn't work but I was semi retired so wasn't that big of a change. I'm going to oncologist next Wednesday, he thinks it's in my bones now so waiting to see him for results. He has recommended radiotherapy to blast it but looking at your message I'm not to sure, originally he was going to prescribe immune therapy. Definitely not giving up to much to look forward to lol x

janette, dont be afraid of the radio therepy process,,,,its much easier than the chemo... it takes the staff longer to get you in the right position,,,say 6 mins,,,the actual treatment takes bout 2 mins,,,with no pain involved...you dont feel a thing..its like a laser pen being shone on ya skin,,,it has an entry point and an exit point . so the laser goes right through you,,,i had it 31 days in a row,,,no big issue at all, and nothing to worry about..4 machines in my hospital, and . one or another was always broken down,,,they add you to the other machines,,so waiting for treatment became longer..i developed a tickly cough bout 2 months after treatment,,i was told it was down to the radio, then maybe 3 months after radio,i was told. that a secondary cancer, could appear, due to the radio i had,in the wating room/like a bus station lol,you see the older men walking up and down a lot. these people have prostate cancer,,they have to drink bout 3 litre of water or squash,,before their treatment..some are busting for a wee,,and gotta wait till they are called,,for me.radio stopped my tumour in its tracks, 7cm in upper left lung, it has never grown since, and dispersed the cancer cells, if your cancer goes to other places or organs., you get an M . followed by a number 1. 2.3 . or more, for me its M 0 . this means it has not spread, i have a friend with M 2 . it spread to her bones . and . liver,,,so things not looking good for her at the moment,,the worst thing i have experienced,is a BRONSCOSCOPY, camera in ya lung,, i chose to be awake....big mistake,,,,i should of elected to be asleep....they took biopsy of the tumour,,,trust me in this, elect to be knocked out cold,if you have to have this done...i have had 7 broken ribbs ,due to prednosolone long term,,,steroids make ya bones weak,,,,i been on them nearly 4 years now,,and they only just started to give me medicine to strengthen my bones,at present im on morphine 2x a day..slow release tablets...and things are ok,,,no real problems,,,i get checked and scanned every 4 months,,,,,thats it,,,,,

Hello everyone,
I thought it would be an interesting discussion to see which members still smoke, and which members smoked, after their diagnosis of lung cancer.
Do you smoke? did you smoke? How did you stop?
