When I was severely depressed I wasn't up to much and couldn't speak let alone cook so I ate a bacon roll a day for 3 years. I knew it would be harmful and I developed diabetes type 2. I think it might have been around for a lot longer as the high or particularly low sugar seriously makes you malfunction. Raising your sugar level to normal can make a huge difference to wellbeing physically and mood. It can take you from pure stress to functionality again.

Hi all, have just joined, I have had Bi-polar disorder for the last 25 years and it doesn't get easier, have been on every medication under the sun including lithium, prozac etc but the only thing that works even slightly it Mitrazapine which I know they are using to treat depression so if anyone is suffering from depression it might be worth asking about it. Asking for help and medication if you are depressed is not a sign of weakness (I know some of my friends feel that it is), you wouldn't try to fight other illnesses without drugs and depression is a serious illness, Mitrazapine unlike many of the other meds I have been on doesn't seem to have such extreme side effects. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about 2 months ago, it is not going well so far, I have been asked to try and control it through diet and exercise and if you read my status thing you will see the responsibility they have placed on me is terrifying, having bi-polar is like being 2 people, on a good day I can probably manage, on a bad day I am in self destruct mode. Knowing that every time I put my blood glucose over 8 I am possibly hurting my health is enough to scare the life out of me. I would love to know how others cope, especially those who like me have lived on microwave dinners prior to this, struggle with the concept of 'looking after themselves' and if like me dislikes any veg other than potatoes, peas and carrots and pretty much all salad with exception to the basic lettuce, tomato and cucumber. I whilst I shouldn't say this, if one more 'health professional' tells me I have to 'try' to eat these foods I dislike as they are good for me I might just say something to them I would regret afterwards. I pointed out that me eating all these 'good' foods they keep on about is equivalent to them being forced to eat kidney or liver or some other food that turns there stomach. Hmm...okay just realised I have gone on a bit so sorry about that.!. One thing I have learnt recently is that there is a link between Carpal tunnel syndrome and your maternal grandmother having Hypothyroidism (which mine has) and between Carpal tunnel and Diabetes, something to do with the veins and lack of blood supply, can't remember exactly what was said as i wasn't having a good day and on those days my brain doesn't absorb information so well.

Haze, I'm interested in what you say, I think we both know in our hearts you are type 2 not only have you the symptoms but you have the family history to go with it.
It would be wise to start a lifestyle of being sugar sensitive, having normal urine sample means at the time your urine sample was taken your sugars were not high but its time for your doctor to give you a bloodsugar monitoring kit, I wish you well now you have joined the diabetes gang.

Haze,
no not a badge exactly, we have a club they call it the diabetic clinic blood sample, urine sample, weight check, blood pressure, regularly I'm on one every 6 months now, but your circle of friends expands as you discover others and have chats.
My least favourite time is August when I get my diabetic eye test, an awful experience where the optician tells you to keep your eyes open whilst s/he blows air into them the challenge is impossible, photographs taken behind your eyes etc

Hello everyone,
Having type 2 diabetes has been put in connection with depression. Therefore experts suggest that patients receive treatment for depression if they have type 2 diabetes (read the article here).
Do you struggle with depression as a result of your diabetes? Or maybe the other way around?
Good day to you all,
Marina
