I’d just like to know if anyone with type 2 diabetes ever developed a rash.

Now I have an idea of the subject matter I might have a few tips when dealing rashes which may be cause by fungal infections. My wife is very obese, short arms and suffers terribly from all types of infections including fungal infection due to her immune system not working. She has various auto-immune diseases and like diabetes that does have a negative effect on the immune system.

Her daily routine of a shower I assist getting to areas she can't reach around her anal area, under the breasts and groin, making sure they are very clean. Then after drying I use hair dryer to ensure all these areas are totally dry, tip off a nurse.. If any sign rash or infection I apply an anti-fungal cream. Being pro-active I can reduce her discomfort completely. I also check her feet closely for cracks, fugal infection and other signs of infection, reducing dryness with E45 and reducing rough skin

Similar to diabetes she suffers terrible water infections three times last year where the infection was a particular bad one that kills one in three peoples and regular sepsis. Standard water infections generally occur monthly and the GP now supplies strips to test her urine whenever she shows signs of symptoms. Those strips quite useful as they identify other indicators as she has chronic kidney disease and dehydration, another complication. We now have three types of anti-biotics on standby but these days the infections come thick and fast so she is on the anti-biotics virtually permanently. The rashes seem to build up in line with these diseases so being pro-active is effective. The one issue that really affects her is massive boils under her breast which occur regularly, better hygiene has not helped there. The latest discussions with the GP is long term low level anti-biotics which a lot of old people take in the last few years of life due to water infections.

For me as a diabetic I do occasionally have groin infections, mainly due to putting on weight. So a little anti-fungal cream and a diet solves the problem. Dealing with this type of infections has become a norm for me as helping my wife's parents and my Dad in their last few years and then my wife. Being pro-active is key to reducing this discomfort.

@LindaStafford‍ Up and until I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes there was nothing but a few little patches of Psoriasis. But, I have found in the last 19 years of being Diabetic my skin "flares up" at times and it is so severe and debilitating.

i suffer very ichy back above shoulder blades and below back of neck never connected it was to do with type 2

I HAVE Diabetes 2 I get all sorts of complaints due to Medication but Ive never had a rash, look at some of the things you put on your skin, are you using a new washing detergent? new kind of soap? trying new moisturising cream? have you had some new clothing? I feel anxious for you, you need to investigate this

@robjmckinney‍ thank you. This is how I deal with my fungal infections. I am on methotrexate too so i also have a compromised immune system psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I didn’t know however that the immune system could be attributed to the fungal infections and I love the hair dryer tip. You’re a star. Cheers

Daisydef Hi Daiydet,

My wife has been on immune suppressant for years, we requested due to her Bechet's six months ago to stop Mycophenolate because of the possible link to these infections. While this has reduced the frequency a little the regular infections still come think and fast. The GP has declared she had a new auto immune disease recently Sjogren's syndrome which dry's her out in all areas of the body, no tears, mouth, bowel, virginal, feet issues. My wife is on water tablets due to her heart condition and legs and abdomen swell filling with fluid, so on fluid restrictions of 1.5 Litres a day for years. So in contradiction with Sjogren's which demand fluids so she has returned to full fluids but have to admit this syndrome has reduced fluid build up in her legs. But in all the new symptoms her feet are now a worry with splitting and dryness so keeping hard skin down is essential. Regular daily inspection for issues and infection is part of our routine and E45.

Hi Again have been using T Tree oil and Cream and the results are brilliant. And no after affect very cheap.

Was told about this and used it as was given as a trial.

I suffee from eczema but the worst is wen my sugars are high my ankles feet hands and wrist get so itchy there is no respite until my sugars come down i hope this helps some one
