Hi Niki45 hope your doing ok, the radiotherapy is a pain because it's every day. Hope the time goes well and you come through this next step that is the process of cancer treatment.

Thanks. Yes it's the journey there and back (one hour each way if I drive fast!) and the expense in petrol over three weeks I'm not looking forward to!

That's very true Margaret1. I have finished radiotherapy a week ago. I'm feeling really good apart from a bit of tenderness and some redness.

Having had lumpectomy with lymph node removal three weeks ago I go to follow up clinic for results this Friday coming - 10th Dec. Probably likely to be radiotherapy and tablets for 5 years but there’s always that small fear that some cells may have escaped into the lymph. In which case it will be chemo first. The radiotherapy equipment in Swansea where I will have my treatment Is apparently brand new and very up to date so will only mean five days rather than three weeks. It’s more intense so I’ve read so at least it will be over quickly once it starts. Good luck to everyone starting or going through treatment xx

Further to my earlier post - I’ve just read another where someone posted a poem. I hope it’s okay to include my own which describes my experience of lumpectomy. I used to write poetry a lot when I was younger and have found it comes to me when dealing with different emotions. I wrote this ten days ago.
BIG C
Good morning to you Big C!
For that is what you are to me.
It took you two whole years to grow
Without me being in the know.
So you appeared in monochrome
On mammogram that I was shown.
A big announcement from the doc
Which came as a gigantic shock!
Biopsies taken, weeks to worry.
Results it’s seems we cannot hurry.
Then news was in - it was confirmed
The lump’s malignant is what we learned.
My thoughts were then - it cannot be
It can’t be happening to me.
But plans of op and treatment come
Reality is - it won’t be fun.
So now with lump and nodes all taken
My breast preserved - they weren’t mistaken.
A malignant tumour has been chopped
With hope it’s progress is truly stopped.
And so I wait some time to hear
- are those lymph nodes really clear ?
I soon will know what is for me
Chemo - or radiotherapy!
With drugs for years that make me ache
To stop regrowth for safety’s sake.
Whatever outcome is in store
I’ll live with “Big C” evermore.
Though accepting what you are “Big C”
You haven’t, and still don’t, frighten me!
So respect your threat is what I’ll do
With hope to stay strong - and healthy too!

In this discussion I invite you to share your experience with lumpectomy, to help others who are going to go through this type of operation with advice on how to prepare for the surgery, how it proceeds, and what to expect.
