Hello my son was just diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis.Ive told him to make an account here too. He started coming down with all sorts of aches and swollen joints on his hands and joints. Since he's quite young, early twenties, we never wouldve believed it was arthritis or that it was related to his psoriasis.
I'm worried about the side effects from the drugs he going to start on. ANy one have treatment recommendations?
Cheers,
Jack

@magicmick I had a full knee replacement 4 weeks ago, I have had 14 operations and have to say this is the most painful thing I have ever had done, I had any drugs offered in hospital so was out of it for 2.5 days, I can feel the difference though so cant wait to see how much better it gets!

Hello, I've experienced the typical stiffness in my hands and knees. I'm on antibiotics right now which means I had to off my infliximab and it's starting to get hellish.

I have come to live with it, the doctors have tried every drug going and I must say they all don't work, the only relief that works for me is liquid Turmeric caps. they do work but don't tell your doctor they will say they are not approved by NICE I wonder why not. I learned of this while waiting in a queue for 2 hours on my last visit to hospital. you can get them on Amazon or Barrats

I have psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis and have methotrexate and humira injections and I got my life back pain free and all the psoriasis gone i had awful nails on fingers and toes but they are back to normal since taking the medication. The only issue I have now is I have just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knee and the pain is awful.

On the more serious drugs u have blood tests monthly so they catch an problems before they catch hold of you hope that helps you a bit take care

Hi
Well where do I start!
I get frustrated by the constant exhaustion in my muscles. The slightest action feels like I have just done a work out to that part of my body whether it be an arm or a my legs for example.
I am aware that my disease isn't managed at all yet even though I have been diagnosed 18 months or so. It just feels like Russian Roulette with my medication as to whether I will be allowed to continue it from one blood test to the next as my liver rebells.
Everyday a new part of my body starts to creak and feel stiff and painful. To be honest it's scaring me just how quickly things are progressing. It is really getting me down. I can't walk far, self care is difficult . I'm determined to be independent so I'll struggle to succeed in the task.
I want to have the energy to get through my day as I work full time running a women's refuge which is mentally very demanding but fortunately not too physically. I'm so tired at the end of each day. It's an uncomfortable exhaustion. I also suffer from Narcolepsy diagnosed at a similar time to the arthritis, and this also gives me fatigue- I have a double whammy of fatigue.!
I am shielding at the moment so I have had a chance to rest. The first week off work I slept solidly and now I feel more rested. I confess I am anxious about becoming so exhausted again but I am determined this illness won't stop me from doing what I love.
Overall I feel distressed with it all and just want it to go away, My healing has gone to pot. I have put weight on as I can't exercise, I dread going upstairs and at times I just don't know how to deal with it.
Sorry to sound so down hearted, I just don't feel I can bring any positivity to this discussion.

Psoriatic arthritis can affect any joint in the body. The most common symptoms are:
- swollen fingers and toes
- tender, painful or swollen joints
- plaques
- reduced range of motion of the joints
- morning stiffness
- lower back, upper back and neck pain
- general fatigue
- changes to nails, such as pitting or separation from tha nail bed
Which of these symptoms are you experiencing? What were the symtoms that appeared first? How did they develop?
Thanks in advance for your contribution
