Hi, sorry no advice but I know how you feel I love sweet things and like to bake I am also obese and lack motivation to exercise. I did start really well when first diagnosed lost weight ate sensibly then it all went to pot, hoping with the good weather I will get out more. When my husbands away Ive started to use Wiltshire farm foods to make sure I'm eating a balanced meal as on my own I can't be bothered to cook.

Hi angie, I also miss sweet things but recently I been using Stevia and I have found it to excellent,it seems that it is sweeter then sugar and it has zero calories. Give it a try, the cheapest I sellers I have found are on Amazon. Unfortunately it is quite expensive at around £5.50 per 500grams but it is worth it.

I don't have a particular sweet tooth , I bake a gluten free reduced sugar cake at the weekends and once it's gone , with help from my hubby , that's it for the week .My weakness is fruit and at this time of year I've cream ( even though I have a lactose intolerance as well so have to be very careful how much I eat in one session ) I just get frustrated with the lack of help and support I got from from the diabetes dietician and if I have had a bad day with other health issues will nibble on all.the wrong things including lots of chocolate so I try to make sure I haven't any in the house so not even my granddaughter will get a chocolate Easter egg .

I too have a sweet tooth but I substitute fruit to get my sugar fix, always have several pieces every day, for my drinks at the pub, I have Sprite Zero or coke zero, both have no sugars or calories, I am still too fat, but I eat too much meat.

There are plenty of sugar free sweets on the market now and even a few that have less side effects like the 'trots' if you eat to many. There is various books on Amazon showing sugar free or reduced for after dinner, some simply download. Not my cup of tea but cheaper back to basic options have much less sugar that expensive reduced sugar options, sugar is an expensive ingredient. The cheapest jams for example contain much less sugar than reduced sugar options. Plenty of sugar reduced ice cream like Franks but I never examined the basics and cheapest options, no doubt less sugar.
There is a general movement to sugar free or reduced options so there are plenty of choice. The general rule of 5% or less of sugar still leaves plenty of healthy options for us diabetics. Read the label and moderation is key, custard tarts are usually more friendly so are jelly sweets.
All is not lost but we are usually totally ripped off, even Ebay has a massive range of sugar free sweetie's, fill your boots but be mindful of filling the toilet with certain types.

@Angie63 I have replaced potatoes with sweet potatoes, pasta with spiralised veg (usually courgette) and rice with cauliflower rice. Also, check your sugar after eating only one food. I did this with peas and found that my sugar was sky high after eating them. Try to work out what works for you by testing after you have had one food only. I also like pineapple cottage cheese, gives me sweetness without too much sugar and bio yogurt, these don't usually have too much sugar in them, plus I am now into Coconut products. love the yogurt. Hope these few tips help.

I feel for you I have a similar problem but unfortunately anything that taste sweet is sugar, all fruit that's sweet or otherwise contains natural sugars these ali have to be limited and I love fruit so much life is tough, looking on the bright side we can have some but limited amount.
Sorry to bring you doom and gloom but a little is better than none, keep smiling.

Hello everybody, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2003. I know I am obese and I love sweet things. I have tried artificial sweeteners and they just don't work for me. Please, if anybody can give me any advice on how too reduce my sugar and carbs without feeling that I am depriving myself I would be really grateful x
