Hi @Pippadog
Thank you for getting this discussion started!
You have a great point when it comes to diabetics diet especially when it comes time to share meals with other people.
How do you typically navigate this? Do you tell your friends in advance to be mindful of your condition? Do you get tired from having to tell people around you about your restrictions?

@LizziB Sugar is are expensive ingredient these days as cheaper food has alternatives, so ideal for diabetics. Expensive food from M&S etc. full of sugar but even cakes from the cheaper supermarkets have low amounts of sugar. Biscuits are a classic with cheap ones much lower sugar than 'reduced sugar', same with some cheap Jams. Government policy forcing manufacturrers to reduce sugar and salt these days are making many foods safe for diabetics as the 5% sugar rule is so common today. Sad that I am adding salt to bake beans, something I have never salted, sugar is also reduced making them taste horrible. This terrible government policy changing the taste of our food but benefitting diabetics, at the end of the day moderation would have done!

First the way it affected me.
I found it difficult to to change my lifestyle the adjustment was like a yo-yo which continued for many years ? Maybe non accepting but with some awareness of my condition plus the changes I had to make to improve this condition, having to check everything for sugar content . Some people don’t think or they forget I am Diabetic offering me mouth watering cakes or boxes of chocolate as gifts , being invited for a meal they are not used to looking out for the sugar and carbohydrates that they are providing , it becomes my responsibility to decide the amount I am allowed to eat. Although it's my condition it can affect other people's thought process.
