Hello ladies, how are you doing?
I thought I would kick off this discussion created by @maddoglady because I think it's an interesting thought.
Have any of you turned to online or in-person support groups? Have you found them helpful? Can you relate to the feeling of being overwhelmed or bombarded by information? What do you think?

Hi,
I subscribed to a few forums on Facebook which I found very helpful. Mainly because I was able to ask about wigs as the wig clinic stopped coming to the hospital due to the pandemic so I was left with nothing.
The ladies in the group were really supportive and one even sent me a wig they no longer needed. Some things can be a bit frightening especially when you know someone and then sadly they pass away, so I guess that’s the sobering reality of our condition.
I had no support from the BCN’s. Because I went through my treatment during covid not even Macmillan was available. It was a very difficult time to go through treatment.

@Wozeywifey I also turned to facebook. There is a group for everything! I also used it to ask for recommendations, I believe in word of mouth marketing. Thats why I like influencers, but not the paid ones. I like the girls sharing their lives. While I don't know them personally, I feel connected. I am bit shy, especially with my cancer, so the virtual setting for me is perfect.

I can’t say I found Macmillan or Maggies helpful for the emotional side of things, but I did join a few groups on Facebook and I just jumped in when I had a question. I wasn’t bombarded with these groups. They were there if I needed them so for me I found these very helpful. It also didn’t help that all the services you say there is, we’re not available during covid when I went through my treatment so I actually felt very lonely.
good luck with your journey xx

Who out there has used a support group, online forums or in person by attending meetings? If you have how useful did you find the experience? From my own perspective when I was first diagnosed I was bombarded with letters, leaflets and phone calls telling me how I should feel and what I should do, how I should react at any given stage in the process. I didn't find it helpful or useful, most of the time it was downright annoying, always the implication has been that it isn't possible to cope by oneself! Even the treatment set up is geared up so everyone sits crammed in together to share their experience. In the UK there is the specialist nurse, McMillan, Breast Cancer Care to name but a few.
