hiya carol, I have the same condition and but mine is in all my joints and spine, I walk with 2 crutches, I'm on lot of med too, and when it gets unbearable I have to lie down, with using crutches I had to have double carpal tunnel in both hands, and waiting for 2 operations on my feet and legs. I have had it now 7 years and they cant put me on any stronger pain killers, I have a wonderful husband and son who helps me. I'm always about if u ever what to talk

Dear carol, I myself have no cartilage in both knees, and find that everyone thinks that when I say I'm in pain that its a joke gone wrong, my arms and shoulders hurt like hell, my legs I could well do with out all the pain, as its bone against bone and when its cold it hurts more, yet I get no help as they say that I'm not in pain, I myself cannot take to strong a pain killer as it affects the asthma, so I have to bear the pain, I myself live on my own and have found that swimming helps as this allows you to exercise and to enable one to gain the strength that I need to carry on, To ride a bike I'm allowed to bike one mile out and one back and that's it, as for the pain, plus on top of this I had a stroke and I will not give in, and even then I got no help what so ever.
swimming is a very good form of exercise, and you may feel tied but at the end off the day it helps big time.

Hi I'm Franky I suffer with osteoarthritis in my hands feet neck knees and pelvis, I also suffer from other problems as well. I am coming off pregabalin slowly and the pain is 50 percent higher again now. I can't take morphine based meds as they send me loopy. I use vicks on areas that hurt at night 2hich helps with pain relief at night and I can get some sleep. Anyone got other hints and tips please.

Thank you all for your responses I have to lie down when I'm in pain, I have asked to see a surgeon to see if I'm in need of an operation I have had hydrotherapy and that helped I'm going to go swimming when I feel much better as I'm not to well at the moment. I have tried accupuncture I only had a couple of sessions but I couldn't carry on with it as it was to expensive. But thank you all .

Hi Carol i have osteoarthritis ( In various parts of the body), Rheumatoid Arthritis, psyatica and Cervical Spondylosis. I am on a few tablets to. I am currently having Hydrotherapy at the local hospital which is really nice. But they think i have a problem with my hip and that's what has been causing me to have continual pain for the last 12 months on my left side. It got so bad that i had to finish work.

i really feel for everyone of you on here I just wish we could get some help,I have asked my GP if I could see a surgeon for a chat and so they can look at my X-Ray's to see if they can do anything.

Hi, I know there are lots of circumstances where surgery might not be possible or desirable for osteoarthritis, but certainly in my case, having had both knees partially replaced, surgery on my thumb and both shoulders, I'm a big fan. It means I have been able to remain mobile and have an active life. So for me if there's a good chance it will help, I'd go for it - I know how debilitating the pain can be and how that affects one psychologically too.

Hi folks. I really feel for all of you that have posted here. I have come onto this site having been diagnosed last year with osteoarthritis of the hips but do not suffer compared to some of you here. I am trying to stave off painkillers which I have managed to do up to now but wanted to share with you that I seem to benefit from regular sessions of aqua fit. Regular exercise in the heated pool seems to help me. I did initially have some physiotherapy sessions and was given some exercises to do but the physiotherapist was pleased that I did go to aqua fit and now find the exercises helpful if I cannot get to aqua fit. Just wanted to let you know. This is my first post.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!
