I have just had word that I'm having my right knee replaced at beginning of June after a 3 year wait . My left knee is very bad as well and I'm worried that it won't support me with all the exercises I have to do .

Please dont believe them when they tell you you are too young for a knee replacement i had mine at age 56 , 2 years after first going with pain , it has also been realigned , at one hospital they have done mri that shows its still out of line that was in 2014 , was due to have the whole thing replaced but due to several issues it never got done .Have now moved to a different area different hospital and drs , the knee consultant did xrays showing its not out of line , my pain tells a different thing ,sent me for a spine scan and referred me to the spine specialist ,as far as the knee consultant was concerned the pain is coming from my spine two bulging discs . He will not ask for the mri results from the other hospital and has since discharged me from his clinic , i am at a complete loss at the moment as where i stand or not as the case may be , i take paracetamol, naproxin ,tramadol and amytriptyline and use ibru gel , even a letter from my DR has not got him to ask for the mri results , WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE very frustrated on the fact i am not being believed . Sorry for the long post .

Well folks it is now 6 weeks since I had my total knee replacement. I can bend the knee very well but still get a lot of pain. I have cut down on the painkillers but find if I walk a lot the pain comes back. I have only had appointment to see the physiotherapist once since I came out of the hospital and that is because I rang up to enquire when I was getting an appointment. I have been doing the physio myself at home. I know it is early days and am hopeful that I can get rid of the crutches in a few weeks.

hi I am 54 and I have osteoarthritis in both of my knees my left is the worst though. I can hardly walk most the time, I take Tramadol and Narproxin, I recently had a cortisone injection in my knee at my doctors surgery which has done nothing to help but one I was given by the specialist in January did help after a few weeks it took the edge off the pain for a few weeks but it came back with a vengeance. My work place aren't very helpful I am waiting for a leg rest to make me more comfortable at my desk at the moment I am having to support my leg on a chair next to me... This is v painful and hurts my hip. I have tripped up mats in the entrance at work because I can't seem to lift my foot very high. I have difficulty sleeping; I sleep on my side which makes the pain worse (I can't sleep on my back) I can't take Tramadol whilst at work it makes me sleepy I have fallen asleep at my desk

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Hi all. I know about the pain of OA but recently I have twice now on separate occasions, had the most excruciating pain in the back of my right knee. Was just getting into my car both times. Couldn't drive, stand or anything for about an hour. Just had to sit in car and wait for the pain to ease enough to .move my foot from one pedal to another!! Really bad pain.
Just wondered if anyone else experienced anything like this?? I'm not sure if it's related or something else? Any comments welcome. Thank you.
