What I can say I attended University as a mature student and with the lifestyle I put on weight. Not knowing I was diabetic or developing diabetes, I can say my mental abilities took a sudden drop along with my eyesight. As my eyesight varied during the day and my memory got much worse making simple reading a challenge. So, on development of a then unknown diabetes I can say at that time my all round abilities were shot. It was not until several years later, changing my GP that I had my blood sugar levels checked. Off the scale blood sugars and with the help of drugs and diet I was able control my diabetes. In the meantime my mental abilities totally downgraded, so yes it does affect brain health, a hard lesson and compounded rubbish GP.

Have you made any changes to protect your brain health while managing diabetes?
Do you incorporate specific foods, mental exercises, or physical activity into your daily routine?
