Hello

I know that diabetes can increase the risk of eye damage and I'm concerned that I will get cataracts and glaucoma or even go blind. Has anyone experienced the worsening of their eyes? What can I do to prevent this?

Well the Optician has just stated that I have initial signs of such problems. My wife, a non diabetic is awaiting her cataract treatments, getting blind as a bat as the Optician stated new glasses will no longer help. My younger brother just had his cataracts done, he is diabetic. The first eye was successful but the second eye operation did not go will with an inexperienced Doctor. The top man came in a week or so later to repeat the operation replacing the lens. But still he had to go through that period without a lens so blind. Interesting you can choose the type of lens, long or short vision then wear glasses for the opposite you did not choose for a full range.

One wonders where these treatments with lazers come in rather that replacement lens they advertise on TV!

I had my eyes tested earlier this month and I now have to wear glasses all the time like I did in primary school and I also have a pair of reading glasses too.

I don't know if it has anything to do with my type 2 diabetes or not though.

I have also have to have my eyes checked for glaucoma as my mum's mum has glaucoma.

My glaucoma check is more for hereditary than anything else.

I am struggling at the moment as I have a cataract in my left eye, which I am still waiting to be dealt with and a growth like asa stye in my right eye which the hospital tells me is a fatty growth due to diabetes which is to risky to operate on. On top of that the tablets I am on for cancer make my eyes very puffy and at night sometimes I can barely see.
