A while back it was claimed that people with COPD had lower serum level of vitamin D, magnesium and calcium. I don't if this was confirmed by further studies. Did you have a blood test recently. If you did this could have shown up a calcium deficiency. I don't remember the article I read at all. I would use Google to find what the current medical attitude to the relation between Calcium and COPD is.

I hope you are doing OK with the COPD. I suffer from it as well and it limits what I can do quite a bit. I was a carer for 4 years for someone who had COPD. Eventually a GP prescribed a syringe driver with Midazolam, a potent sedative, in it. He went to sleep and never woke up again. I was incredibly relieved. I can understand your fear of an unpleasant death. I have no intention of seeing things through to the end. Hope you have a good weekend.

Hi Steve, im not to bad with the COPD, at the moment i think the weather is getting to me a little, not a lot of air. I dont think its the death that scares me its more the in between, like you i was looked after my mum for years, she was a very strong person and fought it to the end, but they never gave her any sedative, she had to keep going till her heart just gave up, she died in her sleep, this was only a year and half ago, i just wish she was here so i can talk to her about this horrible illness. So far its looking like a lovely sunny weekend (well so far) who knows with the english weather.
Take care Steve

I am glad you aren't too bad at the moment, long may it last. Are you allergic to Spring Tree Pollen ? It was very high where I live yesterday. I bought some anti-histamines from our local supermarket and they helped a lot. Might be worth experimenting.
I can't see any merit in keeping people conscious until their last seconds. Before I got the Midazolam my dad was struggling and getting very distressed. I was getting very depressed because there was just nothing left that I could do. Midazolam terminated his distress within a few minutes of being started. I don't know if it would still be possible. It was part of the Liverpool Care Pathway for the Dying which parts of the NHS operated. They decided to stop doing it and announced that people would be dealt according to their needs. This usually means dealt with worse than they were before.
I think you are right to concentrate on having the best time you can. I started a book a while back. My focus is on trying to finish that. Hope the weekend is going well. Take care.

Hi Steve,
The doctor has put me on Calcium channel blockers, they are for my heart. So not to bad i suppose.
How is everything with you? I had a bad chest infection, think they call it "sticky lung," it was very painful but on the mend now.

Good to hear from you Sharon. Are you sure they are for your heart. They have the effect of relaxing the muscle that is part of your arteries. This lowers blood pressure. They are prescribed in their millions for this. They are given for the heart in atrial fibrillation and to reduce the oxygen demands of the heart in Angina and other conditions. But this is way less common. They don't relate to the calcium tablets you were given at all.
I am keeping going -just. All I do at the moment is a little bit of writing and a lot of listening to music. I have started to play in public again after many years. My grandfather was Irish and he taught me the violin using trad Irish dance tunes. We have a pub not far away who have an open mic night. You only get 15 minutes but I have been having a good time.
My depression doesn't improve but I am not expecting that it ever will. It is always good to hear from you, if you ever have time.
Love
Steve

Just because you have c.o.p.d does not mean your going to die from it! I was told that if I continue it would make it worse,,but I think its how severe it is,,,so please don't scaremonger people in to think your going to have a bad death,,,when I was diagnosed with c.o.p.d, first thing they said, if you stop smoking, it would level it self out,,so if you are smoking with it that's your choice,, also being told some people smoke when on oxygen is beyond belief!!!
