My husband has Emphysema now called COPD of course - he needs a flu jab every year, but usually gets poorly when he has it.

When i was diagnosed with COPD i was told i need a flu jab every october and i also asked for the Pneumonia jab which is a one only in lifetime one and find that this helps me get through the winter a bit better even though i am prone to lung infections sep to april/may, i use emergency antibiotics for 7 days and steroids for 5 days when i get infections.

@Suncatcher2015 , I wasn't too bad this year when i had flu jab, but have had several years when it has made me ill

@roselilly We don't know what to do this year - obviously he needs it for his COPD, but we are waiting for confirmation of a diagnosis of Myasthenia Gravis and his general health is poor, I think he will be more susceptible to being ill after the jab, but the surgery want him to have it as he is on their list.

@Suncatcher2015
I had the pneumonia jab years ago- it is only for certain types of pneumonia.
it does not stop you getting pneumonia of other types - i have had pnemonia several times since the jab.
I believe if you are under 65 you could need it again at a later date.

I was thinking for my husband who is just 65, I guess we can but ask at the surgery.

Hello everyone,
It is sometimes adviced to get a flu jab when you have asthma, since the flu can make the asthma more difficult to control. Do you get a flu jab for your asthma?
All the best,
Marina
