Hi, I have just been diagnosed with COPD , I have struggled since oct thinking it was ashma. I have been given the right inhaler now so hopefully I will start to see a difference in my health. I have never smoked and so was bewildered as to why I have this . I don't know anything about it and so any advice will be gratefully received. My doctor gave me some internet sites and I have sent for some information.

I have been diagnosed with copd after a chest infection and then becoming infected with the flu virus even though I have the flu injection I was very poorly and couldn't breath property for about 3 weeks I have been using seretide 125 inhaler but gp has changed it to seretide 250 not noticed a big difference ok walking but anythong strenuous I get out of breath what inhalers do others recommend I'm seeing respiratory nurse later this week

i have had COPD mainly in the form of Bronchiecstasis where thhe small air pockets in the lungs breakdown into larger pockets and collect mucus this then becomes infected which causes further complications. I also suffer a number of other health problems including asthma. i take a vast amount of tablets and two inhalers ,Seretide and Ventolin.

Whilst on holiday in Mauritius 18 months ago i found that my breathing improved dramatically and I did not use either of my inhalers for the whole time there. When i arrived home i tried an experiment ,I kept my bedroom at a constant 70 f. and found that my breathing remained pstabilised. I am fortuanate that i socialise with my doctor and at the same time as i began the regime of keeping my bedroom warm he prescribed a tablet named Montekalust which takes away excess mucus from the lungs. A few days after i started keeping my bedroom warm i stopped using both of my inhalers. And just 1 month ago was signed off the respiratory clinic at the hospital. The consultant could not believe my dramatic improvement of breathing. I have had asthma for 56 of my 75 years and have always had breathing difficulties,especially during the winter months. On frosty mornings I could not take in large gulps of cold air this would immediately cause me to use an inhaler, and I would often stay at home.

I often joke with the pharmacist at our surgery at the cost of keeping me alive,as i know that the Seritide inhalers are extremely expensive ,but having managed to acheive this wonderful successs story I am happy that i am doing my part in cutting costs. I fully realise that keeping my bedroom at a constant 70f costs money but it is certainly worth it. Of course the big plus is I can walk normally and have been able to start up my one love again, sailing,which really is the most wonderful outcome of the whole situation. The other wonderful outcome is after 56 years I dont have to fight for my breath and free of having to carry inhalers whereever i go. With spring fast approaching,who knows,i may find my attention turns to the things that little boys do at this time of year,and this time be successful in catching one.!!?

Hi I am new to this group' I was diagnosed with COPD late 2013 and struggled for 18 months but with a change in medication and a living with and controlling COPD. I now feel in control with exercise, better diet and of course the meds. Sleep is something else I go to bed drop off 1 hour later ping! that's me awake for the rest of the night frustrating but it's out of my control.
