Hi @LizziB
I was am not really the cancer patient that is out inspiring other people. I was sad and scared. You get through it, but it was really hard. You can say I was in a negative mood, I'm not good at hiding my emotions, so when I was feeling sick, you could tell. My belief in God has not changed, I still go to church every Sunday however, I did pray more throughout the week. I did yoga before my diagnosis, so I didn't do that for my cancer, but doing the ritual was helpful for my stress levels and for my body. I did start taking more vitamins to try to enrich my body. Chemo was killing it, so I wanted to do something to help it. I also started eating less meat, my diet is more full of veggies now and I think it helps.

Since my Stage 4 Diagnosis I've had a lot of support from my local MacMillan Centre and other wonderful support agencies. I've had complementary therapies to help me relax, I've done meditation and mindfulness courses to help me deal with day to day life and to stop being overwhelmed with panic. I've also joined online groups and met in face to face groups. However, there was a gap when Covid hit and some of the support mechanisms then transferred to on-line, which was Ok but not great.
I also learned how to crochet which has been an absolute boon to me. I find the process of crochet to be very mindful, living in the moment and concentrating on something which requires your full focus helps to turn the volume down on the worries circulating in my mind.
I also play the Ukulele, which again requires your full focus so helps me when I'm becoming overwhelmed with thoughts about my health and my future.
Family and friends have also been amazing and have continued to support me from day to day.
It's been a bit of a journey and a struggle at times, but once I told myself that all these services are out there to support me, and that I shouldn't feel awkward or a failure asking for help, then it did become easier. Talking really helps, particularly talking to people in the same position as me and someone who is removed from my direct family and friends circle. I feel I can talk about my concerns without passing the burden onto a loved one.
