Hi everyone .. newbie here
I've had an underactive thyroid since 2002, fluctuating from 150mg to my now 75mg daily, although blood tests on Tuesday so that could change.
I've no hair whatsoever now, it was thinning due to this but I helped it along by pulling it out (trichotillomania) .. wigs are amazing though

good luck Natalie Jane, I also have underactive thyroid and must admit I used that and my osteoarthritis as my excuse for being 15 stone. I then met a wonderful man that has changed my life completely. I am now 11 Stone and still losing, I want to lose another stone at least. It isn't easy but with determination it can be achieved

Hi I have underactive thyroid, only on 50mg but often feel undermedicated. I have thin hair but with careful diet I can maintain my weight just. I take vitamin B12 and vitamin D as us thyroid sufferers are often lacking these important minerals. I am constantly tired but rarely have a good night's sleep. There isn't a lot of information but there is a thyroid site which is informative.

Hi Natalie Jane ,
I was diagnosed with o/a in 2000 and I too have dry itchy inner ears. I've seen my Gp who told me to use a moisturiser. He didn't link it with my conditions of o/a and osteoporosis. I wonder if there are others with the same problem?

@aglowlady me too, they drive me potty. I can't use moisturiser as it damages my hearing aids so on days I'm housebound I use olive oil in them.

Hi, I was diagnosed with o/a in 2000 in my right knee. Following a recent period of increased pain and stiffness which had greatly reduced my mobility, I had an Xray. This showed that it's now severe.
I went to a demonstration about products using Aloe Vera. I was told that it could probably reduce the effects of the o/a. I was sceptical at first but after taking the gel for 5 weeks I am amazed at the reduction of the pain and stiffness.
It also has an effect on the digestive system which was great at first as I'd been taking co codamol. So I'm gradually finding a dose which will work well on the joints but not too much on the bowels!
its great not having to take analgesia which makes me feel at best a bit woozy or downright tired.
Hope this might be useful to someone. :)

Hi, this is my very first time commenting on here. I was only diagnosed 4 weeks ago with underactive thyroid, and prescribed 75mg Thyroxine. I am constantly tired, and can fall asleep anywhere. I am forever spilling cups of coffee on me, because I drop off to sleep all the time. My hair is so thin now, I could cry. Could anyone tell me how long it can take before you feel any effects from the medication please.

I'm only on 100mg a day but I was losing so much hair I thought I would end up bald. I discovered Petrol Head and Maiden Hair shampoos and conditioners from [This content has been moderated by an administrator] my hairs fuller than it was before and its gone from shoulder length to almost waist length.
If you're in a country they don't post to, try to find a shampoo with no sulphates or parabens and add a few drops of rosemary oil, it helps but its not as good as the MCC ones.
I totally relate to the weight gain.
