Rheumatoid arthritis and pain that it causes can make it very difficult for the patients to perform everyday tasks. However there exists a number of devices designed especially for people with rheumatoid arthritis in order to ease their pain and discomfort.

Are you familiar with any of these devices to help you open cans/jars, hold kitchen utensils, dress/undress, use the car, etc.? Have you already used them?

If yes, you are welcome to share your experience with and your opinion of them, to help others with the information.

I have trouble putting my socks on, I use a device bought on the web for £8 I slide the sock on it and then slip my foot into it. I also use large handled oxo can openers, which is als brilliant for using to open the sealed plastic, and it says cut here, just put the can opener on the plastic and turn the opener. I took my laces out and used a replacement bought from the web, they are elastic and can allow your foot in using a long handle shoe horn. The elastic straps allow movement and are not too tight. Sorry I don’t have correct names for them but will try to revisit

@SallyKyns hi Sally. I asked my GP for referral to Orthotics at my local hospital. My daughter is an Orthotist and told me not to see podiatrist but to ask for the Orthotics. I had an appointment in about 4 weeks and was measured for insoles they have made a real difference to the pain in my feet. Worth a try.

@marmarsue Hi Sue that’s really helpful, thank you. I’ll contact my doctor, I’ve not heard of orthotics, I hope our local NHS trust has an Orthotist! Definitely worth a try x
