I had to yes. But I'm in Ireland so am sure it's different. My GP filled in a form for social Welfare. I had to go to 2 medicals for the social Welfare.

Hi, I can't work either. I'm in Scotland, not sure of where you are claiming from, if it's different. I applied for DLA, had to go through to appeal, but did win. It does help if you can get someone from Occupational Therapy to help with application. It helps your claim if you can show that you are attending physio appointments, or your gastro clinic appointments, even regular visits to your go, they just want to see that you are genuinely trying to help yourself. Good luck

I'm still technically employed but I've been off work sick since my diagnosis in October 2016. I tried to go back in February but I couldn't cope. I'm going to try and go back again next month (hopefully). I'm going to try going back part time initially and see how I do. I've also been considering asking my employer about the possibility of working from home but I haven't brought it up with him yet. I feel a huge amount of guilt about still being out of work after all this time. I'm constantly beating myself up about it but it's just so stressful and difficult and we all know stress makes our symptoms 100% worse.

Hi I have given work up because of uc. My husband has started his own business to help financially. It has helped having time for hospital appointments and time to rest . Hope this helps.

Hi, my name is Heidi, I'm a cashier at a local supermarket and I've been suffering with UC for 3 years now. At first I worked 40hours weeks, but after I took a 2 months leave for my hospitalization (due to a horrible flare up) and returned to work I realized that 4Ohrs was actually too much for me and it aggravated my UC. So I reduced the hours to 28-30 and I think it has done me some good, especially during minor flare-ups, when I spent less time at work and got to rest more. Now I'm thinking of cutting some more hours of my work week, and I even had some thoughts of quitting for good but it scares me. I'm only 45 ...
Has anyone already quit their job because of the disease? Could you please tell me how you managed to do it and if you got some social aids from the government? thanks a lot!
