@Aaliyah Hello,
Thank you for adding your discussion, I think your sister might find reading this testimonial helpful. It is from a member who was suffering from COPD and asthma and managed to give up smoking. If you click here, then you will access the testimonial :) I hope it helps.
Have any other members some advice to give?

Aaliyah hello
I smoked for absolute years at 20+ a day and no way would anyone ever make me give up. I have not smoked since 18th Dec 2017 going cold turkey overnight and I can only share with you how that happened.
I washed my ashtray one day and literally needed to 'dig away' at the ash in it and it repulsed me.
So I continued and when the ash tray was full I did not throw it away or wash it. Just before coffee every morning I would smell it and the stink was uuggggh is that me smelling like that?
As simple as it is that is how I stopped and got some gum and chewed anytime I got the withdrawal symptoms so shove the ashtray under her nose and ask her to smell it as the deterrent.
Good luck
regards
Nigel

@Aaliyah
I have COPD and i managed to give up smoking nearly 5 years ago?I know it's hard but we'll worth it?
What I did was put Elastic band on my wrist and every time I felt like one I would ping it?
It did hurt a little but put my mind off smoking?
Good luck?

@Aaliyah Hi,i have copd and I still smoke,the problem is when most people give up smoking they put on weight.doctors tell you that's not true or you eat more.It is true,i gave up for 2months and gained a stone in weight,so I started smoking again and lost the extra weight in a few weeks.I had my blowing test in December and was told that my breathing had improved over the last year,thats despite the fact I still smoke.the only other things I do are light exercise and use a steam room around 3 times a week.i hope something here may help.

@Aaliyah Nothing much you can do if she won't give up. The decision is hers if and when she wants to stop smoking.
Having had a diagnosis for some time yourself you understand the consequences of continuing to smoke.

If your sister does not give up smoking then her COPD will be a lot worse plus her health will degenerate faster

@Hayli1503 Yes, I have tried telling her this but she won't stop. I don't want to push her away from me so I don't nag that much...it is her life after all :(

Thank you all for replying....I especially like the idea of putting an ashtray under her nose! I will tell her about that and also the elastic band.
Like you mentioned, she is also frightened of gaining weight. She is alrady slightly overweight so it is a fear for her...
THANK YOU ALL xxx any other advice is appreciated...I will read that article too.

You can't change your sister's habit and should no try. It will only cause ill feeling putting pressure on. She must give up herself as it never will be successful. My wife had three heart attacks, COPD, Asthma, auto immune diseases etc. and never would give up. Tried every treatment to stop smoking and wasted a fortune, never stopped her and we almost gave up. On her last episode she went on life support yet again for a few weeks and has mostly given up, just lapses from time to time.
Doctors will always claim you going to die if you don't give, that is standard drivel they are requested to claim as policy. Being overweight is a bigger threat than smoking and my wife is obese with an enlarged heart and nothing anyone says will change her love off food. So give gentle hints and at some stage no doubt your sister will give up but only by her decision or it will fail. For me after throat cancer not caused by smoking but I gave years ago from a forty a day habit, cold turkey without the latest fad. But as soon as they say I have something that that is terminal I will be straight down the newsagent. Loved smoking and still pang everyday for one, the smell irresistible.

Like me, my sister has developed COPD. However, hers is very much in the earlier stage while I have been dealing with mine for quite some time.
She refuses to give up smoking fully. She has cut down quite a bit but she is also lying about it and I can sometimes smell cigarettes off her :(
What to do? I bought her a vape and nicotine gum but she won't stop!! It is upsetting me.
