I remember when my grandmother's budgie died, we were sad because she had patiently taught the bird to say quite a few words (none rude fortunately). Granny wore very powerful bifocals and she went into the pet shop to buy another bird. I came to visit and she told me the new budgie had wrenched the gate off it's cage. I saw the "new budgie" and did a double-take, she had purchased a parakeet which wasn't very happy to be stuffed inside a cage much too small for it. Yes we had a good laugh and as you see, we still tell the story because you have to laugh to get through life sometimes. Best wishes, Jimmy

I bet you could. Why not try it. You will be amazed if you let your imagination run wild. Sometimes it could take your mind off the dark side. It sometimes works for me. It is good therapy.

Before I was confined to a wheelchair I used to give nice re-framed pictures to friends and family who liked them.
I could get almost all of my materials from charity shops and I looked for nice pictures that had (in my opinion) the wrong frame to display it to best potential. Those I bought and reframed with new or clean used cardboard inserts that improved the picture considerably. I also bought pictures for the frames alone and kept them until I found a nice picture to frame. I used to enjoy seeing my reframed pictures hanging on friends walls.

Making animal shapes using rubber moulds isn't very popular any more but you can still do it for your own pleasure. You will need plaster of paris, the moulds you wish to use and the paint you need. I like dogs so have made west highland terriers, painted them either white or black and they look really nice.

Have you ever thought of using papier mache to make playthings for your grandchildren or whoever? Might be good to consult parents or whoever is in the know.
When I was younger dragons were all the rage but I think dinosaurs might be more popular now or sci fi characters.
If you can borrow a book about dinosaurs with big pictures from the library, you can use the picture to see the shape and work out how big or small you want to make the plaything. You will need bucket loads of patient and loads of old newspapers to tear in pieces plus a big bucket to soak the papers in water. It works best if you soak the newspapers at least for 3 days running after it has soaked up all the water. You can then mulch up the paper until you get a rough consistency.
Use bent coat hangers to make a skeleton that will help to build up the outer layers. If you can use the inner cardboard tubes from toilet rolls or from kitchen paper over the skeleton you can stick your papier mache to that with wallpaper paste. Add one layer of paper at a time and leave it aside to dry before adding another layer. When you have the final dry shape its down to your skill with paints to make the entity life-like although you can use glitter or anything they stock in places like Wilko or the 99p shops to dress your dinosaur or whatever you have made. Good luck.
