Hello physiogal. It's great to hear that you are staying positive. It can sometimes be difficult with this disease! I have had OA for some years now, and no you don't get used to the pain, but it is possible to learn how to manage it and make it tolerable. At least for me. But I also believe that it's key to stay positive. I have a great family, a supportive boss and good friends who all understand and it makes a great difference for me. I have more energy to be positive and I have more fight in me :) Of course I have bad days, but I have learnt that it's okay to press pause and deal with the pain instead of stressing to make it go away. For me it works better when feel that I stay in control. Did CBT a while back to learn how to deal with the stress that followed the pain. For me it really helped. Keep up the positive mind - and please do whinge - it's better to get it out of the system :)

Hi, I have bad OA in both my hands and it is becoming quite crippling. So my doctor suggested surgery. I still haven't decided to go through with it yet. But the meds aren't working, so I think it might be my only option soon. I would love to do more things around the house, with my family and my friends. It has taken a little organisation, but my friends are good at coming up with things to do that doesn't require hands :) I always try to stay positive and want to be as active as possible, it takes my mind off this disease. I am just enjoying that I can still walk - after all it's "only" my hands that are so bad. So I'm enjoying every day, and trying to deal with the pain.

What kind of activities without the hands you do? I am interested... My week point are also the hands, they are not completely useless yet but I want to start finding new and diff things to do.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Hi everyone. Hope life is treating you well. I know for sure I have my really bad days with pain, but in general life is sweet. I have joined this forum merely to connect with like minded and positive people in the same kind of boat as it were. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis last year....mainly in my feet , but the dreaded stiffness and soreness is gradually spreading ..arggh :). If you fancy a chat then drop me a line. Might be nice to have a chat with sometime who really understands the discomfort of OA....someone who won't mind the occasional whinge here and there... Keep smiling and keep moving folks. Clare x
