I too have this horrible problem and have heard of aquatherapy or hydrotherapy. Perhaps you could ask the GP to prescribe something? Or at a local gym which includes a pool, there may be a therapist. I am investigating the same thing.

I also tried flexiseq for my hip OA, it is expensive, its OK for knees and wrists but as you say not for hips. I tried swimming but found it made my pain considerably worse, was in agony afterwards, it depends on the stage your at I think. I cannot have a replacement as I have a lung condition. I have found that cutting out sugar helps it also helps with depression and anxiety too, its an addictive drug. I got recipes, and sugar free treats from sugarnono. co.UK they have a diet plan to help wean you off sugar. Its amazing what products you find sugar in.
I think you become immune to pain killers after awhile. None of the sprays or creams seem to help at all.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Hello
I have knee osteoarthritis which I have been treating with " FLEXISEQ" a gel used around the knee twice a say. This had totally changed my life and although quite expensive to buy - was worth every penny !
Sadly I now have hip osteoarthritis, and unfortunately the above gel is not helping as much as the knee. I have however been on holiday with a private pool and having devised my own swimming "regime" was amazed after 2 weeks to find that the pain in my hip was almost gone. I hate taking tablets and have to say took absolutely none during this swimming exercise, it was unbelievable. No stiffness at all after sitting or getting out of car etc, I could not believe it. The pain I have to say has returned somewhat as I cannot get to a swimming pool that easily to continue. Can anybody suggest similar exercises to achieve what I managed to achieve in the swimming pool.
I look forward to any comments from fellow sufferers.
Thank you :)
