Hi Julania
Just came across your post!
Yes I had SPD with both my children(they are 18 & 22)It wasn't so bad with the first one it wasn't picked up until the end of my pregnancy. I was told it sorts it self out after you have given birth!!!!! but that was when all my problems started!! My back has been deteriorating since then. When I had my second child it was back with a vengence from day one! I was booked in for a ceserian with him but he decided he was coming the day before so I ended up giving birth naturally with just gas & air! Needless to say I decided I couldn't go through having anymore children!
When the arthritis in my hips started a few years later it felt just the same as the SPD the pain was right in my groin spreading round my lower back & legs! I asked then if the specialist thought there was a link but I was told no! I have had both hips replaced now. I recovered from the first one ok but the pain is no better(sometimes worse) since I had the other one done.
I don't really know anyone that has suffered with SPD personally so it would be nice to know more. One lady I know says she gets it when she is pregnant but she has 6 children & is still out partying when she is exspecting! So I pressum she only has a mild case(if there is such a thing) or she is much tougher than me lol.
It would be good to know if there is a link between OA & SPD I feel there is. It a long time now since I had my children so I pressum there has been a lot more research into it now! You will have to let me know what you have discovered. Do you think it is worth asking the specialist agsin? I'm under differnt ones now
Sandra xx

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

I have OA in my lumbar sacral and when I was pregnant with my children (now 23 & 25), I suffered from Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD), now more commonly referred to as Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP).
As a result of my SPD I set up a charity for women suffering from pelvic dysfunction caused through pregnancy, which over the 7 years I ran became an International group with 17 branches in the UK, 1 in New Zealand, 1 in America and 1 in Malaysia, and during those years I learnt a lot about pelvic dysfunction in all its guises.
Since having OA I have come across several OA sufferers who also suffered from SPD, just wondered if there might be a link between SPD and OA in the lumbar sacral?
